WSP is currently seeking an exceptional candidate for the position of Structural Technical Director/Project Manager for our Connecticut office.
This individual must be able to manage/supervise/mentor engineering staff for various phases of assigned structural projects. The candidate must have previous project management (or deputy) experience. Collaborate with senior engineering and business development managers and local business leads on long-range plans and objectives to grow the business and identify Business Development opportunities for the office and the structural group. The position requires strong technical, organizational and interpersonal skills. The candidate must be an enthusiastic and motivated person to lead and manage both tasks and projects on all types of challenging transportation projects including design-build. The successful candidate will be a major participant in all phases of the project, including pursuit, and throughout design and construction of the project. This position is an exciting opportunity for a candidate to join a dynamic structural team with experienced professionals in a leadership role.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 12+ years of relevant post education experience with heavy highway/rail bridges as well as other transportation facilities.
- Project management experience with the ability to estimate manpower requirements, provide quality control/assurance and manage project scope, schedule and budget.
- Professional registration (PE) is required. The successful candidate will be expected to obtain licensure in Connecticut or Rhode Island (and potentially other New England states) within the first 12 months of employment.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Strong working knowledge of the design standards and protocols of Federal (FHWA & AASHTO) and state DOTs (Connecticut or Rhode Island, New England, Northeast preferred).
- Experience with structural design software such as CSi Bridge, Midas Civil, STAAD, AASHTOWare BrR, LARSA 4D, MDX, LEAP Bridge, etc.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage and technically lead staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in Structural engineering.
- Project management (or deputy) experience, including managing multi-discipline projects and subconsultants.
- Established relationships with public agency clients and contractors. Connecticut or Rhode Island, New England, Northeast preferred.
- Experience on design-build projects serving as the design manager (or deputy) or as a structural lead.
- Strong writing skills as well as oral presentation skills to help lead business development activities.
- Ability to travel within Connecticut or Rhode Island up to approximately 20% of the time.
- Experience with cloud collaboration software such as SharePoint, ProjectWise and BIM360.
- Experience with engineering software such as Bluebeam, MicroStation/Inroads/OpenRoads and Autodesk/Civil 3D.
