Position Summary:

The Technical Designer is responsible for translating creative concepts and engineering requirements into detailed technical drawings and documentation to support the fabrication, rigging, and installation of scenic elements, staging systems, and custom-built solutions. This role serves as a bridge between the creative vision and practical execution, ensuring all elements are designed with precision, safety, and buildability in mind.

Key Responsibilities:

• Interpret designer drawings, renderings, and client briefs into technical drawing packages for fabrication and installation
• Generate 2D and 3D CAD drawings, construction details, and layout plans using software such as AutoCAD and Vectorworks
• Collaborate with project managers, fabricators, engineers, and rigging professionals to develop accurate build documentation
• Ensure designs meet safety standards, structural requirements, and venue constraints
• Participate in design reviews, site visits, and load-in/load-out planning as needed
• Maintain clear and consistent documentation of revisions, materials, and construction methods
• Provide technical support throughout the build and installation process

Qualifications:

• Proficient in AutoCAD and Vectorworks
• Strong understanding of scenic fabrication, rigging practices, and production workflows
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, technical specifications, and engineering documents
• Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in a fast-paced production environment
• Experience in live events, theatrical scenery, or architectural fabrication preferred
