Overview
Are you an experienced UX designer ready to take the next step into people management while continuing to shape great user experiences? Medpace’s Software team is seeking a UX Design Manager to help modernize internally built software tools supporting human clinical trials and research.
This is a great opportunity for a senior-level UX designer or design lead who has led projects, influenced design decisions, and is ready to step into a management role. You’ll have the chance to build leadership experience while staying hands-on with design, user research, and strategy. Your role will involve mentoring designers, improving design processes, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create intuitive, user-centered solutions for complex workflows within a regulated environment.
If you’re excited about leading without stepping away from design, growing a team, and positively impacting the healthcare industry, we’d love to hear from you!
Responsibilities
- Team Management role, coaching/mentoring, and supporting a growing early career UX team through hands-on design work.
- Lead UX projects from concept to launch, collaborating with product owners/BAs, engineers, and stakeholders.
- Advocate for user-centered design by conducting user research, usability testing, and data-driven design improvements.
- Develop and refine design systems to create consistency across products.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups, ensuring scalable and accessible designs.
- Help shape the UX and broader product portfolio strategy, using your experience to establish best practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration, ensuring design solutions align with business goals and technical requirements.
- Grow your leadership skills, gaining experience in hiring, coaching, and team development.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in UX, Product, or Interaction Design
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Visual Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, or related field
- Prior experience as a lead designer on projects, with some exposure to mentoring or guiding other designers
- Strong ability to advocate for UX design: capable of marketing and selling the importance of UX to non-design stakeholders, from software engineers to executives
- A strong portfolio showcasing UX processes, challenges, and delivered outcomes.
- Experience conducting user research, usability testing, and iterative design improvements.
- Proficiency in design tools like Figma, Sketch, or similar platforms
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate design decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Familiarity with Agile and Lean UX methodologies
If you’re an established UX designer looking to transition into management while staying hands-on with design, this is the perfect role for you!
