The Pre-Press Designer will evaluate artwork submitted by the customer and prepare the art files for our digital printing press. This position will collaborate with sales, graphic designers, customers, production management and press operators. A detail-oriented professional with an eye for print quality and color accuracy is an ideal candidate. This person should be motivated, enthusiastic, and ready for a complex, fast-paced environment. This position will require production-related pre-press skills. Creative graphic design skills are a plus but will be a smaller role for this position. While the primary focus of this position being pre-press, all designers are expected to train and become proficient in both pre-press and in structural design. They should be prepared to do either/or as required by workflow within the company.
Essential Functions: • Understand and follow digital printing guidelines by using technical, creative and color management skills. • Review and modify incoming art files for the best quality output following digital printing press guidelines. Attention to detail required. • Maintain a highly productive work schedule to meet customer's expectations and deadlines. • Work with Digital Manager and production to keep digital press within the standards of our color management guidelines. • Work with our design, production and sales team on samples, prototypes, and orders. • Provide digital (soft proofing) or physical color proofs using color management tools and knowledge. • Sending files to RIP computer(s) and press. • Examine artwork for any possible production issues and report them to the Digital Manager. • Troubleshooting print quality issues as needed. • Ensure files are ready when needed for production (follow schedule). • Support sales efforts with client calls and ongoing interaction with clients and others who participate in the development and implementation of design projects. • Use graphic software, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat to output designs. • Use Artios 3D or CAD to generate CAD drawings and samples. • Maintain a backup of all art files generated. Label and maintain physical sample library of samples and orders to confirm subsequent orders. • Work as a team player to streamline workflow and production. Help other others as needed, in the office and in production. • Tracking projects through development, adhering to a timeline established with management. • Investigate new techniques, new materials, and new processes while working closely with internal and external departments and groups. • Training and certification on digital press is required. • Travel requirements: No regular travel required. • Scheduled shift: 10:00am- 6:00pm M-F. Schedule flexibility during peak seasonal periods is typically required. • Any other duties assigned to help reach company's goals.
Required Skills/Abilities/Knowledge: • Demonstrate expertise in the latest Adobe Creative Suite software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat (we work on a Mac platform). • Possess an excellent understanding of digital/inkjet print methods. Knowledge in flexographic and/or offset printing methods are a plus. • Have the ability to manage multiple projects and remain flexible through revisions while keeping a strong attention to detail. • Preparing client graphic files for optimum proofing and production results. • Knowledge of color management preferred and understanding of G7 a plus. • Understanding of fonts, color theory, and industry terminology. • Working knowledge of ESKO ARTIOS software preferred, but not required. (Training provided) • Ability to set up files for print on Large Format High Speed Digital Press. • Digital/Inkjet file prep training a plus. • Knowledge of print production and pre-press a plus. • Possess experience in package or label design. • Preferred to be familiar with four-color process printing preparation, PMS colors, proofreading and editing of files as needed. • Must be a team player with a positive attitude and must have an eye for details. • Have a sense of urgency along with a sense of humor. • Perform effectively with attention to detail, in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment. • Perform effectively in a team-oriented environment. • Communicate clearly and often. • Perform well independently on projects from beginning to end. • Ability to maintain a regular and predictable work schedule with punctual attendance. • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Education and Experience: • Associate degree in relative field required; bachelor's degree preferred. • 3-years pre-press experience preferred. • Software experience under Mac Platform in: Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Illustrator CC, Adobe Acrobat. Knowledge of Adobe InDesign CC preferred. • High level of drive and energy, being self-motived required. • Aptitude for learning new technology and processes required. • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions: • Sitting - Remaining in a seated position. • Standing or Walking - Standing is to remain on one's feet in an upright position without moving about. Walking is to move about on foot. • Lifting or Carrying - Lifting is raising or lowering an object from one level to another. Lifting can include an upward pulling motion. Carrying is to transport an object - usually by holding it in the hands or arms, or wearing it on the body. • Pushing or Pulling - Pushing is exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the origin of the force. Pulling is exerting force upon an object so that the object moves toward the origin of the force. Pushing or pulling may involve use of hands or arms and/or feet or legs done with one side of the body or both sides. • Reaching Overhead - Extending the arm(s) with the hand(s) higher than the head and one of these conditions exist: (1) A person bends the elbows, and the angle at the shoulders is about 90 degrees or more, or (2) A person keeps the elbow extended, and the angle at the shoulder is about 120 degrees or more. • Reaching At or Below Shoulder Level - Reaching at or below the shoulder is present when there is 'Reaching,' but it does not meet the threshold for 'Overhead.' 'Overhead' and 'At or Below the Shoulder Reaching' can be present in the same task. • Keyboarding - Entering text or data into a computer or other machine by means of a traditional keyboard. Traditional Keyboard refers to a panel of keys used as the primary input device on a computer, typographic machine or 10-Key numeric keypad. • Speaking - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. • Hearing Requirements - The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., machinery alarms, medical codes or alarms). • Near Visual Acuity - Clarity of vision at approximately 20 inches or less (i.e., working with small objects or reading small print), including use of computers. • Far visual Acuity - Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. This is not just the ability to see a person or object, but the ability to recognize features as well. • Peripheral Vision - Observing an area that can be seen up and down or to right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point. • Stooping - Stooping is bending the body forward and down while bending the spine at the waist 45 degrees or more either over something below waist level or down towards an object on or near the ground. • Crouching - Bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine. • Kneeling - Bending legs at knees to come to rest on knee(s). • Gross Manipulation - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with the hand(s). It is often present when lifting involves the hands. Note: Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand to hold or operate a tool such as tin snips or scissors. • Fine Manipulation - Touching, picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm as in gross manipulation. • Climbing Ramps or Stairs - Ascending or descending ramps and/or stairs using feet and legs. Hands and arms may be used for balance (e.g., to hold a railing). Note: Stairs involved in commute or getting into building are excluded if work is always performed in one building. Stairs onto a vehicle or a piece of machinery or equipment are included. • Extreme Heat - Exposure to non-weather related temperatures that exceed: 85 degrees in a humid atmosphere; 90 degrees in a dry atmosphere • Hazardous Contaminants - Exposure to a substance that negatively affects the respiratory system, eyes, skin or other living tissue via inhalation, ingestion, or contact. • Proximity to Moving Mechanical Parts - Operation of or proximity to moving materials, mechanical parts, settings, or any moving objects (most commonly moving machinery or equipment) that could cause bodily harm. • Noise Intensity Level - Loud noise intensity level to which the worker is exposed in the job.
Pay Range: • $22.00-$27.00 per hour.
