POSITION SUMMARY
Pence Media Group (PMG) is seeking a Senior PR + Marketing Strategist to lead and execute bold, insight-driven communications strategies for our public, private, and nonprofit clients. This is a leadership role for a high-performing strategist who excels at shaping narratives, securing earned media, and aligning marketing tactics to measurable business impact. You’ll serve as a trusted advisor, creative force, and executional engine—owning campaign direction from concept through completion.

YOUR IMPACT ZONE

POSITION OVERVIEW
PMG is hiring a Senior PR + Marketing Strategist to serve as a trusted advisor and executional leader across high-impact campaigns for our diverse client portfolio. This senior-level role is responsible for shaping integrated strategies that fuse public relations, brand storytelling, and digital marketing—across both paid and organic channels—to drive measurable business outcomes.
The Senior Public Relations + Marketing Strategist is responsible for managing and executing PR and Marketing strategies PMG clients. Your responsibilities include managing client account strategy, deliverables, timelines, and resources. You’ll pitch stories to the media, write content, execute events, develop marketing campaigns and enhance brand and digital presence. Collaborating with the client and PMG team is important to delivering successful client deliverables and ensuring a positive client experience.
You will lead with insight, operate with precision, and collaborate closely with internal teams and clients to deliver strategic clarity, compelling narratives, and campaign excellence. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in media relations, content strategy, and digital marketing—and has a proven track record of influencing at the C-level.
This is a full-time, hybrid position. Candidates must be available for regular in-person collaboration in the Indianapolis area, including at our Carmel headquarters. A 40-hour workweek is expected.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field; advanced degree or relevant certifications a plus
- 10+ years of progressive experience in public relations, integrated marketing, or brand strategy, including direct client-facing and leadership roles
- Demonstrated success in building and executing earned media campaigns—including developing media lists, pitching, securing placements, and managing press relationships
- Strong understanding of the media landscape across national, regional, and trade outlets, with existing relationships a plus
- Exceptional storytelling and message development skills, including experience crafting press releases, thought leadership content, media briefs, and executive messaging
- Proven track record of integrating PR and marketing strategies to amplify brand visibility and business impact
- Skilled in crisis communication, reputation management, and reactive media engagement
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving abilities and a strong grasp of market dynamics
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present to clients and executive stakeholders
- Experience managing multiple campaigns simultaneously with attention to deadlines, quality, and performance outcomes
- Proficiency with PR and media tools (e.g., Muck Rack, Cision), project management platforms (e.g., Monday.com, Asana), and Google Workspace
- Willingness to travel across Indiana for in-person meetings and client engagements, as needed
ROLES + RESPONSIBILITIES
Public Relations & Media Strategy
- Lead the development and execution of proactive, insight-driven PR strategies that elevate visibility and credibility for PMG and its clients across local, regional, and national media
- Serve as a strategic advisor to clients on narrative development, messaging, and media positioning
- Identify timely, relevant media opportunities and shape story angles to secure high-impact coverage across print, broadcast, online, and trade outlets
- Write and oversee the production of press releases, media advisories, executive bylines, op-eds, talking points, and thought leadership content
- Cultivate deep relationships with reporters, editors, producers, and influencers; leverage media databases (e.g., Muck Rack) to target and pitch relevant contacts
- Manage all aspects of media engagement: pitch development, interview prep, live coverage coordination, and post-coverage reporting
- Monitor and report on earned media performance, translating insights into actionable recommendations
- Navigate crisis communications and reputation management scenarios with composure and strategic clarity
Campaign + Event Integration
- Partner with internal creative, digital, and content teams to integrate PR efforts into larger marketing campaigns that span paid, owned, and shared media
- Lead or support high-visibility events (press conferences, launches, etc.) that drive media engagement and audience activation
- Manage third-party partners and vendors to ensure seamless event execution and brand consistency
- Oversee guest list development, stakeholder engagement, and post-event amplification across platforms
- Serve as a lead strategist and point of contact for assigned clients, driving campaign vision, execution, and performance
- Build strong client relationships through transparency, proactive communication, and consistent value delivery
- Lead internal teams on campaign execution, budget and timeline management, and creative alignment
- Actively participate in virtual and in-person meetings with executive presence and strategic input
- Stay ahead of market, media, and digital trends to bring fresh thinking and best-in-class practices to client work
Tools + Platforms
- Proficient in tools including Muck Rack, Google Analytics (GA4), social media platforms and project management software (e.g., Monday.com)
Location
- Hybrid role based in Central Indiana with weekly in-person collaboration in Indianapolis and Carme
