Overview
The Videographer produces professional high-quality video assets that perpetuate the Publix brand and are of the highest technical and aesthetic quality. This is done through a high level of both creative and technical abilities, working with high-end professional video equipment, lighting and audio equipment, hardware, and software, along with a comprehensive knowledge of the Publix brand, structure, and culture. The Videographer oversees the camera and the lighting crew and is responsible for creating the look, color, and lighting, and for framing every single shot in a video or commercial. They work with Art Directors to create video assets that deliver on approved campaign concepts, meet marketing strategies, and represent Publix products in the most accurate and beautiful way possible. They also work with the Video Producer/Directors to video internal training videos, events, and sponsorships, often in high-stress environments with severe time-constraints.
Responsible For
- Creating professional video assets by deciding which types of cameras, camera lenses, camera angles, and camera techniques best bring a concept, project, or idea to life.
- Capturing video assets of food and lifestyle for marketing and advertising, social media, and internal communications.
- Using lighting to create the right visual mood the Director or Art Director aspires to achieve, accomplishing this through enhancing an image’s depth, contrast, and contour to support the story’s atmosphere.
- Producing quality photography of both exterior and interior of the retail stores and store locations.
- Supporting Producers/Directors on video shoots.
- Elevating the vision of the Director or Art Director by thinking creatively and introducing ideas and concepts the director may not have considered to enhance the shot or visual appeal.
- Fostering professional growth of fellow associates by providing mentoring and guidance to Photographers and Production Assistants.
- Setting up audio/visual (A/V) equipment for Publix meetings and conferences (examples include the Stockholders’ meeting and quarterly financial meetings).
- Directing crew such as food stylists, grips, gaffers, and production assistants, as well as talent (actors, models) on set.
- Staying up to date on industry and market trends, methods, and equipment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Digital Cinematography, Film, or similar.
- 4 years of experience in a professional and/or commercial video environment or 2 years as a camera operator on commercial, episodic, or film productions.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial video processes and workflows.
- Advanced knowledge of cameras and lighting for cinematic film/video.
- Knowledge of the content production phase of Marketing projects.
- Knowledge of the marketing content procurement processes.
- Comprehensive knowledge of both the “art” and the “science” of cinematography. This requires the ability to mix the science/equipment understanding—such as correct camera and lens selection, exposure calculations, focal lengths, f-stop, Kelvin temperature, shutter speed and ISO speed—with art of composition and a creative eye to create a professional video.
- Comprehensive professional camera equipment knowledge, including professional level cameras (Alexa, RED, Phantom, Canon, Sony), lenses, camera dolly systems, jibs, lighting (continuous lights, soft boxes, grids, scrims, light shifters, gels), along with grip equipment such as booms, C-Stands, and rigging.
- Comprehensive understanding of lighting techniques with an emphasis on highlight and shadow definition and requiring the use of all above equipment.
- Knowledge of sound and audio equipment such as field recorders, various microphones, and multichannel audio mixers.
- Knowledge of A/V equipment, production equipment and consumer electronics.
- Ability to fill various roles on video productions (e.g., teleprompter operator, cinematographer, audio operator).
- Photographic math and measurement including F-stops, shutter speeds, power output of lighting, standard rulers, and American/Metric conversions.
- Ability to think creatively, conceptualize, and photograph in a wide variety of styles.
- Ability to manage projects in an efficient and productive manner.

To reward associates for their contributions to the company for the calendar year, Publix provides a Holiday Bonus in November. In the first year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to 15 hours of pay, and in the second year of continuous employment the bonus is equal to one week’s pay if associate remains employed through issue date of the bonus check. In subsequent years, the bonus is equal to two weeks’ pay.
