Job Description
Job Summary: The Library Assistant will assist guests with inquiries about library services and resources, teach guests to use the library, locate and send materials through interlibrary loan, and assist with opening and closing the library. They will also support the Public Services Librarian and handle departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist guests at the public service desk.
- Open and close the library.
- Manage interlibrary loan operations, including packaging and mailing materials.
- Help students utilize library resources.
- Shelve and check books in and out.
- Clarify library policies.
- Maintain serial materials and assist guests with periodicals.
- Support special projects as needed.
- Attend to regular job attendance and timeliness.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific Skills and Qualifications:
- Possession or pursuit of a bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Spanish language skills preferred.
- Experience in library services, customer service, or related fields preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong social and customer service skills.
- Attention to detail and procedural adherence.
- Basic computer skills and adaptability to new software.
- Strong work ethic and initiative.
- Humble, patient, and collaborative attitude.
- Enjoyment in interacting with diverse groups.
- Commitment to personal and professional growth.
Additional Requirements:
- Background check, education, work, and credit verification may be required.
- Proof of work authorization and identity.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record clearance.
