Overview
Serves as a cross functional writing lead who specializes in content design by shaping unique experiences that help users' complete tasks or flows on employee facing products. Participates or leads the end-to-end design process, responsible for all phases of content development, leveraging Human Centered Design methods to drive solutions. Defines user experience (UX) writing workflows and technical governance documentation that drives UX Design team's deliverables. Independently works with cross-functional teams to meet deadlines on large complex technical projects. Demonstrates thought-leadership and forward-thinking vision, advocating for the user. Oversees multiple projects under tight deadlines across a broad variety of product categories and audiences.
Responsibilities
Create human-centered content design solutions that utilize employee insights, data, and stakeholder input, conducting primary research when necessary
Create clear, consistent, and engaging UX content, including information architecture, product copy, calls-to-action, microcopy, naming conventions and taxonomies
Create and apply user experience models, such as journey maps or personas
Identify opportunities to define and establish conventions for messaging within and across teams
Identify opportunities to improve workflows and efficiency for developing language within products that meet business and employee needs
Develop a vision for messaging across a given product or channel and ensure tactical execution to drive cohesive narratives across all digital touch points
Lead teams through the Development Lifecycle for multiple projects within various phases; ensuring that the deliverables meet language expectations
Build and nurture partnerships across teams for alignment on writing strategy
Collaborate with designers, analysts, researchers, and product managers to define and drive user-centered experiences
Proactively identify address language concerns to ensure projects stay on track to meet project milestones, project time/scope/quality/funding expectations, and business objectives
Maintain ongoing enterprise-wide alignment with departmental stakeholders on brand tone & voice, writing strategy
Champion the Navy Federal brand; create, contribute, implement, update brand style guides, messaging documents and preparedness communications
Ensure all user interface language follows Navy Federal's conventions for punctuation, capitalization, and grammar
Stay abreast of all applicable policies, procedures, rules, regulations, Navy Federal values, etc. to ensure compliance in all communications
Ensure established content processes are followed by UX team and partnering teams
Actively determine and implement new processes for benefit of UX design team, developers, and stakeholders
Originate new concepts, strategies, or innovative approaches to user experience messaging
Serve as subject matter expert for user insights and user experience best practices, advocating for the use of user-centric thinking in content practices
Implement industry best practices for readability, compliance with ADA standards and success metrics
Serve as advocate for content best practices within a multi-disciplinary UX team
Lead in training/onboarding of UX Writing staff; assist in sourcing and hiring process; mentoring across design team
Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Extensive experience of user centered design processes and best practices
Experience in conducting user experience/market/consumer research, project management, and analysis in support of strategic planning initiatives
Extensive knowledge with modern development standards, techniques, and methodologies (e.g., HTML, XHTML, AJAX, JavaScript, CSS, etc.)
Extensive knowledge of web, mobile and application design
Expert knowledge of best practices for web and mobile-based content, tools, and forms
Extensive working experience in technical writing, UX writing, fact-checking, copywriting, or content/creative strategy
Strong ability to research, analyze, and organize concepts and to create conceptual approaches and copy solutions
Expert in project management to include establishing and leading project teams; managing timelines/deadlines/resources; ensuring successful project implementation
Extensive experience leading, guiding, and mentoring others
Extensive working experience articulating design concepts to a broad audience, including non-designers
Ability to apply analytical, creative, visual, and critical thinking
Expert knowledge of effective writing and editing
Expert cross-group collaboration and persuasion skills
Expert communication skills both verbal and visual
Advanced detail and organizational skills
Experience with Agile methodologies and principles (Kanban, Scrum, XP, Lean, etc.)
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
Education, training or experience in Human Factors, Social Science, UX Research, Psychology, Information Technology, Design, Cognitive Science, and Accessibility
ADA certification
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
