Find out more about the daily tasks, overall responsibilities, and required experience for this opportunity by scrolling down now. In the Washington, D.C. area, traffic isn’t just a part of the daily routine—it shapes how people live, work, and move through their day. From the frustrating gridlock and unpredictable closures to the ever-changing public transportation landscape, we need a traffic expert who truly understands the DMV—not just the roads, but the habits, shortcuts, and workarounds that locals rely on. The ideal candidate is someone viewers feel like they know and trust – fun, relatable, and the kind of person you’d want to grab coffee with after the show. You’re not just delivering delays; you’re telling the real story behind the backups and offering solutions in a way that’s informative, engaging, and, most importantly, memorable. If you know these roads like the back of your hand, can make people laugh before 7 a.m., and want to be the trusted voice guiding D.C. area commuters through their mornings, we want to hear from you. What You’ll Do:
Own morning traffic coverage with personality and expertise—helping viewers navigate their morning with real-time updates and smart, useful insights. Thrive in a live, breaking news environment, where you can pivot yourself quickly when the morning commute takes an unexpected turn. Utilize creative storytelling and compelling graphics to make traffic reports more than just maps and delays. Work collaboratively with a team-focused newsroom that values innovation, inclusivity, and creativity. Responsibilities:
Gather and present information regarding traffic news on air and online. Perform live reports and interviews on transportation, news, and community stories. Collaborate with producers, assignment and digital editors, and co-anchors. Communicate with the traffic information providers and emergency personnel. Develop contacts for newscasts and online platforms. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field. Minimum of five years of on-air experience as a traffic anchor on television or radio. Demonstrated ability to post graphics and content to various digital media platforms. Experience with WSI traffic systems, a plus. Ability to edit using EDIUS. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment. Familiarity with Washington, DC, and its transportation network, strongly preferred. Pay Range:
$90,000 - $110,000 USD TEGNA offers comprehensive benefits designed to safeguard the physical, mental and financial health of our employees and their families. TEGNA offers two medical plan options for full and part-time employees through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, as well as access to dental and eye care coverage; fertility, surrogacy and adoption assistance; disability and life insurance.
