Location: Evanston, IL
(This position is designated as Hybrid – Fixed Days and will regularly work in the office an average of 3 days a week – with a set schedule. Managers may require team members to work on the same schedule to encourage collaboration. Rotary is under the jurisdiction of Illinois employment laws; we require all employees to live within reasonable daily commuting distance to Evanston.)

Position Overview:
The Content Strategist will assist the director of Rotary Media Center in supporting collaboration between members of the Communications team and across the organization. You will execute Rotary’s overall content strategies, identifying and developing story ideas to inspire and engage Rotary members, and directing and coordinating coverage across Rotary’s print and digital channels to maximize resources and enhance the reach and impact of each story. As a skilled multimedia storyteller, you’ll be an integral part of Rotary Media Center’s editorial team, contributing to cross-channel content development, creation, and production.
You Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
- 7+ years of print or online editorial production experience, preferably with a news organization or a similar role at a non-profit.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of a language other than English preferred; international work experience preferred.
- Strong news judgement and ability to quickly assess the newsworthiness of Rotary events and identify potential stories.
- Effective communication with Rotary members and other communications platforms.
- Proficiency in content management systems (CMS) and familiarity with SEO and analytics tools is preferred.
You Will Be Responsible For:
- Lead content strategies across multiple channels by collaborating with partners across Rotary International to support the organization’s key membership and community initiatives.
- Serve as Rotary Media Center’s point person, participate in meetings and interviews with Rotary leaders, members, and RI staff to identify and develop unique news and feature stories to inspire and engage Rotary members and highlight the impact of Rotary programs.
- Work closely with managers of Rotary’s key print and digital media platforms and media relations team to decide which stories to pursue and assign them to appropriate channels. If necessary, manage the logistics of coverage, coordinating with marketing (visual media) and the global communications group (regional magazines) to ensure that all global aspects of a story are covered.
- Develop and manage select editorial projects from the idea stage to publication.
- Manage Rotary Media Center’s bi-weekly multiplatform meetings, help develop and maintain a broad-based editorial calendar to plan, schedule, and track editorial projects.
- Coordinate with Rotary magazine, social media, the web, and media relations to customize and promote content for all platforms.
- Write and edit feature or news stories for Rotary magazine, the web, the blogs, social media posts, newsletters, and press releases.
- Assign stories to freelance writers and support the development and execution across Rotary’s primary communications channels.
You Are Good At:
- An experienced writer, editor, and all-around storyteller with an understanding of global issues and cultural contexts.
- A cross-media content creator — you are a channel and media expert and can develop and distribute appropriate content for each channel.
- Comfortable in the language of editorial and media as well as in business and marketing strategy, and able to strategically align the two.
- An editorial decision-maker — leading editorial meetings by providing story ideas, assessing newsworthiness, and discussing coverage angles.
- Champion of the Rotary International brand, voice, and tone.
- Collaboration with subject matter experts to ensure content accuracy and relevance.
- Implementation of best practices in content management and SEO to enhance visibility and engagement.
- Working closely with marketing, communications, content development, and program teams to ensure cohesive messaging.
- Engaging with Rotary members, partners, and stakeholders to gather insights and feedback on content strategies.

Salary Range:
$94,500 - $105,000
