We are seeking a Broadcast Media Technician for a part-time position, approximately 20 hours per week, capped at 950 hours annually.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of the School of Communication and Culture, the Broadcast Media Technician provides technical support for school operations, including monitoring facilities, troubleshooting, and maintaining equipment, especially in studio environments. Responsibilities also include supporting studio classes, student media production, and school events, assisting faculty and students with operational needs.
Responsibilities
- Support production environments such as TV studios, radio stations, and recording booths, including setup, troubleshooting, signal routing, recording, and camera setup.
- Monitor and set up studio equipment for productions.
- Maintain studio reservation calendars.
- Advise staff on scheduling and technical support for events like Open House, Manifest, and graduation.
- Troubleshoot operational issues.
- Collaborate with students and faculty to resolve technical problems.
- Conduct faculty training and support for pedagogical purposes.
- Configure, test, install, operate, and repair broadcast equipment and content delivery systems.
- Train student workers on equipment and assist with software and connectivity issues.
- Maintain documentation and system upgrades.
- Install and maintain equipment infrastructure across venues.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on AV equipment.
- Support live and streamed media content and events.
- Stay current with technological advancements and advise on equipment purchases.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Television, Film, or related field.
- At least two years of experience in a collegiate or professional media environment.
- Expertise in HD television technologies, multi-camera production, post-production, and studio operations.
- Knowledge of streaming media, system design, and schematic reading.
- Proficiency with PC hardware, networking, and Microsoft Office, vMix, Adobe Creative Suite.
- Familiarity with optical fiber distribution, testing equipment, and mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in tight spaces.
Additional Information
- Position subject to background screening.
- This is a union, overtime-eligible position.
- Competitive hourly rate: $23.50 - $28.00, dependent on experience.
