The Role
The Head Runner ensures smooth studio operations by leading the runner team, maintaining cleanliness, and providing excellent client service. This role supports sessions, manages studio upkeep, and coordinates runner tasks to keep the studio running efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide general assistance to studio staff, engineers,
- Ensure all studio spaces are clean, stocked, and set up according to client needs before sessions.
- Manage incoming and outgoing deliveries, ensuring equipment and supplies are handled properly.
- Run errands, including food and beverage pickups, supply restocking, and equipment deliveries.
- Oversee the setup and breakdown of sessions, including mic placement, cable management, and equipment.
- Assist in maintaining studio equipment and report any technical issues to the appropriate staff.
- Greet and accommodate artists, producers, and engineers, ensuring a welcoming and professional atmosphere.
- Help train new runners and ensure adherence to studio policies and procedures.
- Manage inventory of studio supplies and coordinate with management for replenishment.
- Adhere to all studio policies and maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Oversee general studio cleanliness and organization, ensuring all areas are maintained to a high standard.
- Assist engineers and producers with session preparation, gear movement, and troubleshooting minor technical issues.

- Maintain a professional and proactive attitude at all times.
- Lead by example, ensuring all runners adhere to studio protocols and expectations.
- Communicate any issues or concerns to studio management promptly.
- Continuously look for ways to improve efficiency and workflow within the studio.
- Uphold the studio’s reputation by providing excellent service to all clients and staff.
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license, current liability insurance, clean driving record, and reliable transportation for errands.
- Prior experience in a recording studio required.
- Strong understanding of analog and digital studio workflows, large format consoles, a wide variety of analog outboard equipment, microphone handling and placement, and proper cabling and dressing.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Proactive problem-solving skills and a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and transport equipment as needed.
- Passion for the music and recording industry.
- Flexible schedule, including availability for nights, weekends, and extended hours as required.
