GreenSpark Solar is seeking a PV Design Intern to join our team for a twelve-week summer internship program starting May 19, 2025. Under the direction of the Commercial Design Manager, the PV Design Intern will assist in developing and designing both ground-mounted and rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems, as well as support the iterative process of adjusting designs to meet the unique conditions of individual project sites. This role will involve shadowing experienced Designers and contributing to various design tasks, such as basic PV system engineering and coordinating multidisciplinary projects. This internship is local to the Rochester, NY region.
Key Responsibilities:PV Design Drafting: Assist in drafting basic PV system designs using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software or similar programs.
Shadowing & Learning: Observe and support Designers in their daily activities, learning about the full design process.
Project Support: Contribute to PV design projects as assigned, including design revisions and adaptations to meet site-specific conditions.
Team Collaboration: Attend weekly department meetings and monthly All Company meetings to stay aligned with project goals and company objectives.
Professional Development: Participate in Design Department activities and professional development opportunities to expand your knowledge of the solar industry.
Networking: Engage with team members and participate in company events to foster connections within the company and the solar industry.
Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned to support ongoing projects.
Education & Qualifications:
Experience with Auto CAD is required.
Current enrollment in or recent completion of coursework in engineering, sustainability, renewable energy, physics, or a related field required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Passion for producing high-quality work and self-motivated to learn and grow in the field.
Attention to detail and the ability to self-proofread work for accuracy.
Ability to work independently while prioritizing multiple tasks and demands.
Interest in solar, renewable energy, construction, or electrical work is a plus!
Experience with GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is advantageous, but not required.
Familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office is preferred.
Program Duration: 12 weeks, starting May 19, 2025.
Work Schedule: A typical workday is about 8 hours, primarily based at GreenSpark Headquarters. There may be occasional opportunities for remote work, depending on project needs and supervisor approval. Job site visits may also be part of the internship.
Transportation & Lodging: Interns are responsible for their transportation to and from work and lodging. If transportation is a barrier, please reach out to discuss possible accommodations.
Hourly pay range: $17-$22
