Job Description
Salem Academy Charter School (SACS) is a nationally ranked urban charter school north of Boston, MA offering a rigorous college preparatory program to nearly 500 students in grades 6-12. Since 2004, SACS has been committed to serving the diverse population of Salem. Through a unique integration of rigorous college preparatory classes with service to the community, Salem Academy graduates informed, articulate and proactive individuals of strong character.
What You’ll Do:
- Develop and implement curriculum aligned with MA Curriculum Frameworks.
- Differentiating instruction.
- Support, plan and/or co-lead Service-Learning projects.
- Advise students through daily Connections class (homeroom).
- Input academic and behavioral data on the school data management system.
- Analyze student data and monitor student progress through standards-based assessments.
- Offer extracurricular programs in music (e.g. band).
- Teach a variety of electives courses for grades 6-12 such as general music, chorus, keyboard, guitar, and band or strings instruments (preferably both).
- Support school events such as the City of Salem’s Haunted Happenings Parade and school musicals.

- Relentless commitment to raising the academic achievement of all students.
- Commitment to standards-based teaching and learning.
- Ability to provide a structured, orderly, safe, and respectful environment for students.
- Experience working with a diverse student body.
- Experience teaching general music, chorus, piano, and either band or strings instruments (preferably both).
- Excitement about integrating academics with service work.
- Interest in working collaboratively to improve instruction for all students.
- Possession of Massachusetts Teacher Certification or successful completion of the MTEL.
Preference will be given to candidates that meet all of the requirements above, and:
- Are multilingual including in Spanish and English.
- Have designed and successfully implemented culturally responsive curriculum.
- Have similar life experiences as our students.
- Have a Master’s, PhD or EdD degree.
- Have National Board Certification.
