GENERAL PURPOSE
Working under the supervision of the Children's Services Manager or the Teen & Adult Services Manager, this position manages program planning and outreach service delivery for the division (Children's: Ages 0-12, Teen & Adult: 13-18, 19+). In addition, this individual may provide staff support for general, routine clerk duties as needed to assist delivery of public library services.
Essential Functions
Program Coordination & Outreach:
- Coordinates programs and outreach services for the division;
- Assists program coordinators with planning and executing programs;
- Develops and conducts specialty programs and coordinates with the other Program & Outreach Librarian on all-ages programs;
- Manages the division's program budget and makes budget recommendations to the division manager and Library Director;
- In partnership with the other Program & Outreach Librarian, oversees the promotion of library services and programs through social media, newsletters, emails, and displays;
- Collaborates with community partners for program and service delivery;
- Supervises staff assigned to the Program & Outreach Team for the division;
- Hires, trains, makes assignments, evaluates performance, sets standards and goals, and makes recommendations regarding job status including advancement, retention and discipline;
- Manages staff schedules, including shift, program, and help-desk schedules;
- Serves as the shift lead for designated shifts;
- Analyzes professional and administrative problems and recommends solutions;
- Prepares reports and statistics pertaining to services and programs;
- Attends workshops, continuing education programs, conferences, and other professional training opportunities as budget permits;
- Assists with short- and long-term strategic planning for the department;
- Performs a variety of general clerical and office duties;
- Operates computers for word and information processing;
- May perform general duties related to the delivery of library services, as needed:
- Attend help desk;
- Greet patrons and assists with requests;
- Register patrons for library cards;
- Instruct patrons on library policies and procedures;
- Perform references services;
- Assist patrons in locating books and material;
- Collect fines and fees;
- Check in and out library materials;
- Set up and maintain displays;
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree and four (4) years of library experience, or equivalent education and/or experience is required. A Masters of Library and Information Studies (MLIS) or Masters of Library Science (MLS) is preferred.
- Must complete the UPLIFT certification program through the Utah State Library in a timely manner if the individual does not have an MLS or MLIS degree.
- Working knowledge of library reference, circulation, cataloging and classification methods, practices, and procedures;
- Literature and literacy programs;
- Overall library objectives and goals;
- Ability to locate obscure and specialized materials from non-standard sources;
- Maintain and control fiscal aspects of library planning;
- Operate various computers, office machines, and equipment;
- Communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
- Understand and follow written and oral instructions and work independently in carrying out work assignments;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, subordinates, and patrons of all ages.
- Must be available to work every third Saturday and at least one evening shift per week;
- Must be able to meet attendance and punctuality requirements;
- Must have a valid Utah Drivers License;
- Must abide by all City and Library policies and procedures;
- Performs duties that may include physical effort, such as pushing or pulling a loaded book truck, lifting, bending, stooping, climbing, and walking;
- Occasionally may lift/carry materials up to 40 pounds;
- May sit or stand for long periods of time;
- Must have a valid Utah driver's license and be able to drive for job-related tasks.
Salary: $22.68 - $34.03 per hour
