Our client, a Research & Development organization, is seeking an experienced Optical/Mechanical Engineer. The team seeks an experienced Senior Optical/Mechanical Designer to drive the design, fabrication, integration, and testing of cutting-edge sensor systems. Job Description:
- Prepare layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, sketches, and diagrams using CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Siemens NX, CATIA, ProEngineer, or CAM.
- Create and revise production drawings, including detail and assembly drawings.
- Check dimensions, materials, and relations of parts to ensure accuracy.
- Update and maintain drafting and engineering standards.
- Organize and maintain a file system for production drawings.
- Revise existing drawings to reflect design changes.
- Review blueprints, plans, and specifications.
- Maintain documentation such as design calculations, drawings, bills of materials, and performance guarantees.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop complex designs for the performance, fabrication, assembly, and testing of imaging systems, thermal systems, and innovative mechanisms.
- Work with various platforms including manned/unmanned vehicles, aircraft, ships, and spacecraft.
- Design and model mechanical enclosures and optical assemblies, ensuring proper mounting, adjustment, alignment, measurement techniques, precision bearings, gearing, drive systems, structural/thermal analysis, and environmental testing.
- Collaborate effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills.
Required Skills:- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and CAD (SolidWorks or similar).
- Extensive experience with mechanisms and complex mechanical assemblies.
- Experience in designing, analyzing, and documenting opto-mechanical subsystems and components.
- Familiarity with fabrication techniques such as machining and sheet metal work.
- Knowledge of thermal and structural analysis.
- Understanding of optical systems and the design of EO/IR systems.
Preferred Skills:- Strong opto-mechanical experience.
- Experience with military standards and mil-spec components.
- Proficiency in thermal and structural analysis.
- Experience in coordinating and executing system performance testing.
Education:- Bachelor's Degree
