Sr. Experience Designer
You are passionate and driven to give users a voice at the table. Your primary focus is to advocate for the best user experience by providing the user point of view. On a daily level, you serve the development team by providing guidance and support on the details of how our system should behave (interaction design) and how it should look (visual design), leveraging your knowledge gained through user discovery, research and testing. You enhance user satisfaction by improving the usability, ease of use, and pleasure provided in using our products and services.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for actively working in support of the 84.51° vision and goals through our products
- Responsible for building internal relationships, participating in user research, design reviews, and user testing to ensure our products are focused on clients'/stakeholders' business problems
- Responsible for coaching and/or collaborating with others on specific XD skills and techniques
- Responsible for proactively contributing to developing or improving 84.51° ways of working, processes, products/services, tools and/or initiatives
- Responsible for mastering more complex role requirements and working independently on tasks to build out our products
- Responsible for contributing to the delivery of various areas of XD to support the development of our products / programs
- Responsible for leveraging design trends and user research to deliver creative solutions; seeking out additional learning opportunities; demonstrating a solid understanding of the breadth of XD scope.
Accountabilities

- Ensures a consistent user experience across products.
- Identifies opportunities for innovation and discovery.
User Understanding
- Creates personas and user journeys representative of typical users of the product.
- Build empathy for users within the team and among stakeholders.
User Research & User Testing
- Creates a research plan to identify users, hypotheses, goals, potential biases or assumptions, what type of inquiry, where you will source your users from and if you will offer incentive.
- Creates a user testing guide (components above) and a user testing script to read from and to provide paths you expect users to take.
- Identifies high priority or high impact items from user testing and provides recommendations on how to address them with the team.
- Uses skills such as rapid prototyping and research to test and refine innovation and discovery ideas.
- Performs regular usability tests with users.
Visual Design
- Creates high fidelity UI components and mockups based on visual design trends and best practices.
- Develops a style guide, which includes font, colors, UI components, layouts, etc. using company branding and industry best practices.
- Selects appropriate fonts when creating design and understands when and how to select appropriate icons to represent functions or content within a product.
Interaction Design
- Creates UIs that can change to accommodate various screen sizes and devices.
- Understands and implements industry best practices for accessibility (AA, AAA standards).
- Structures website or application in a logical way: creates an information architecture that users can navigate easily.
- Chooses appropriate behavior for a UI component or micro-interaction.
Prototyping
- Creates prototypes to "bring designs to life" and illustrate behavior and interaction.
- Bridges the gap between design and development by working directly with developers.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Strategic and critical thinking, User research, User testing, Visual design, Strong communication and advocacy skills, User empathy
- Interaction design, including responsive design, accessibility, system flow and UI component behavior
- Prototyping
- Executing user research and testing.
- Working in an agile environment - rapid iteration and user testing on designs -- within a cross-functional team.
- Speaking to both the product, business and technical sides of the team, including: Product Managers, Product Owners, Scrum Masters, stakeholders, developers, etc.
- Salary to be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data and cost of labor. In addition to salary, this position is also eligible for variable compensation. Base Range for
San Luis Obispo, CA: $108,100 - 162,150. - Below is a list of some of the benefits we offer our associates:
