Work will occur on site at Patuxent River NAS. You will join AVIAN’s cadre of creative professionals specializing in strategic communication, graphic design, marketing, multimedia production, and more. Our team supports each other through peer reviews, shares resources, and participates in continuing education.
AVIAN is seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to support a Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) aviation program. You will work with PEO and PMA leadership to develop and execute communication strategies for program priorities, plans, status, and themes to DoD leadership and sponsors. Responsibilities include strategic engagement, long-range planning, and key messaging, requiring attention to detail and innovation.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with PEO and leadership to develop presentation and messaging for diverse audiences including Congress, DoD, Navy, government agencies, and industry.
- Plan and implement comprehensive communication strategies aligned with customer objectives.
- Identify effective delivery methods and produce stakeholder communications.
- Develop content management processes for accurate and timely information.
- Create content for briefs, media responses, press releases, articles, social media, and speeches.
- Support public relations activities such as media training, event planning, and image promotion.
- Develop message maps, storyboards, and scripts to reflect strategic goals.
- Evaluate and improve communication processes.
- Work closely with customers and industry partners to develop communication approaches and maintain relationships.
- Obtain information for service requests and support additional needs.
Travel (~20%) is required. This is an in-person, on-site position.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- At least 8 years of experience in strategic communications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and stakeholder interaction skills.
- Ability to build relationships across teams.
- Flexibility, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently or in teams, manage priorities, and meet deadlines.
Desired Skills
- Experience with OPNAV staff.
- Knowledge of Navy TACAIR aircraft, systems, and weapons.
- Experience in dynamic or security environments.
Security Clearance
- Current SSBI or Tier 5/5R clearance within 5 years, or DoD Top Secret clearance.
- Eligibility for SCI and SAP access, with no disqualifying issues.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
Salary Range
$90,000-$120,000, based on experience and internal parity.
