Job Description
The Multimedia Producer is tasked with the conceptualization, planning and execution of a variety of multimedia content to be used across multiple channels, including SU News, SU Today, social media platforms and other digital and print channels. The Multimedia Producer will play a significant role in conceiving and producing high-quality photography, design and video content that aligns with and supports Syracuse University’s strategic priorities. The individual should be a competent and creative multimedia professional who collaborates well with partners to develop visual communications that support goals and priorities of the teams charged with leading and managing the University’s communications strategy, both internally and externally.
The Multimedia Producer will collaborate with other members of the Division of Communications, as well as executive leaders and colleagues in Academic Affairs, Human Resources, Student Experience, Facilities and other academic and administrative units, to ensure the consistent use of the University’s brand guidelines and orientation to specific audiences and objectives.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related field.
- Five (5) plus years of relevant experience in multimedia production – either in an agency, newsroom or in-house marketing and/or communications setting.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of principles and practices of photography, photography editing, graphic design, videography and video editing.
- Proficient in industry-standard desktop publishing and editing software (Adobe Creative Suite, Quark, Final Cut, Premiere), File Transfer Protocol (FTP) procedures and general processing programs.
- Ability to interpret, apply and steward Syracuse University brand guidelines.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment (cameras, light kits, tripod, camera bag, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal skills desired. Experience with digital photography for communications purposes. Excellent attention to detail.
- Calm under pressure.
- Can manage stressful situations in a solution-oriented way with a positive attitude.
- Comfortable working with confidential content.
- Must also have the ability to oversee and execute multiple projects simultaneously while working effectively under the pressure of last-minute deadlines and changing priorities.
- Proactive and takes initiative.
- Functions effectively, both independently and as a member of a team, with a willingness to assist with routine projects and tight timelines.
- Must be outcome driven, resourceful and committed to collaboration.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
- Higher education experience strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, create and publish multimedia content (photography, design and videography) in support of the University’s strategic priorities across various channels including SU News, SU Today and corresponding social media channels.
- Liaise with and support communications team members, communications leaders and campus partners.
- Serve as project manager for initiatives that include multimedia production and creation.
