Position Purpose: The Exhibits and Graphic Arts Designer supports the Dartmouth Libraries’ exhibits program by designing and installing exhibits in Baker-Berry Library that feature collections and resources related to the intellectual work of the Dartmouth community. The designer collaborates with exhibit curators and library colleagues to produce physical and online exhibits. The designer crafts visual elements that enhance exhibit content and effect while ensuring consistency across all visual designs to maintain the Libraries’ visual identity. The designer also prepares marketing and promotional materials, tailoring visuals for digital platforms, print, and multimedia projects. (part-time, 20 hours per week)
Required Qualifications - Education and Experience: High School plus 1-2 year(s) of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Two years of graphic design experience creating print and digital products.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in a range of design and publishing software, such as Canva, Photoshop, InDesign, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Ability to plan and mount exhibits that display library and information materials in various formats that are effective, visually engaging, and attractive.
- Demonstrated writing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to design and layout printed documentation.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work collegially in small group and team environments.
- Flexibility and the ability to work independently on different projects.
- Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities.
- Ability to climb ladders, lift materials overhead, and move or lift up to 30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree preferred; or the equivalent in education and experience.

Responsibilities:
- Designs and produces exhibits for the Baker-Berry Library exhibits program. Identifies exhibit themes and subjects in collaboration with library staff and other Dartmouth community constituents.
- Designs, produces, and creates marketing materials for exhibits and related events in collaboration with the Libraries Communication Manager.
- Coordinates with Preservation Services in gathering, preparing, and mounting items for exhibits.
- Contributes to the production of online exhibits in collaboration with the Libraries’ Digital by Dartmouth Library (DxDL) Group and other partners.
- Maintains public-facing and internal documentation on past exhibits. Coordinates with Rauner Library staff to transfer exhibit materials to the Archives.
- Stay updated on design industry trends to integrate modern and innovative styles into projects. Actively engage in external communities to advance design expertise, share knowledge, and foster professional growth.
- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
