JOB DESCRIPTION
KFOX14/CBS4 is seeking a detail-oriented, energetic, and creative part-time Weekend Assignment Editor!
The candidate will know how to make contacts, generate story ideas, and react decisively to breaking news. Strong logistical skills and the ability to move crews strategically are essential. The role requires excellent communication skills to coordinate coverage and solve unforeseen obstacles. The person must perform calmly and communicate effectively under pressure. Familiarity with the El Paso-Las Cruces DMA is preferred.
Skills and Experience:
- Assign and track news crews
- Identify and develop daily content
- Write and post content to station website and social media
- Produce compelling and accurate writing
- Monitor scanners, react to breaking news, conduct beat checks, and oversee web and social media updates
- Develop and maintain contacts and sources for story ideas
- Respond promptly to breaking news
- Assist in the efficient operation of the assignment desk
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Commitment to journalistic ethics and accuracy
- Effective communication skills
- Basic computer and word processing skills
- Interest in local, national, and global news
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, and emerging social media platforms
- Bachelor's degree in journalism is preferred
