Duties include receiving and handling emergency service calls from the public, which includes determining the nature and location of the emergency and ensuring proper radio frequencies for dispatch of emergency units; maintaining awareness of the location and status of up to or exceeding 50 emergency response units throughout the shift; operating computer systems and consoles, including telephone, radio, and emergency tracking systems; entering, updating, and retrieving information from computer systems, including data on wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, and stolen vehicles; preparing incident reports using the automated reporting system; answering non-emergency calls; coordinating emergency and non-emergence responses with other city departments and law enforcement agencies; handling after-hour service calls for emergency situations for departments including Animal Control, Water Utilities, Traffic and Transportation / Streets and Victim Services; and performing other duties as assigned. Duties require being able to work an eight or 12 hour shift covering a 24-hour period, and schedule will include weekends and some holidays. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years relevant experience; Computer Aided Dispatch, 911 or similar police-related experience preferred. If and when requested, must take and pass an assessment on Critical Personnel Selection Software. Must have, or be able to obtain within specified timeframe, TCOLE telecommunications proficiency certificate and state licensure. Duties involve access to sensitive Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), which requires that a thorough background check be conducted. Candidates will be subject to a polygraph exam and criminal history check. In accordance with CJIS requirements, must not have any criminal conviction as an adult or juvenile above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or any Class B misdemeanor within the past 10 years; other convictions may also be considered.
