The College of Journalism and Communications and WUFT News at the University of Florida is seeking a Social Media Strategist to join our dynamic editorial team.
We are looking for an exceptional Social Media Strategist to develop and implement a comprehensive social media strategy that aligns with our brand objectives, engages our audience, and drives business results for the college's professional media platforms including but not limited to WUFT News, Noticias WUFT, WRUF, and FPREN. As a key member of our editorial team, you will be responsible for devising a social media plan, creating and curating high-quality journalism content, managing our social media presence, and analyzing metrics to inform future strategy.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a social media strategy that aligns with organizational goals and objectives (e.g. increase followers, drive website traffic, generate leads).
- Create and curate high-quality, engaging journalistic content across multiple social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
- Identify, monitor, and report on social media analytics, critical tracking metrics, and insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (news, marketing, communications, administrators) to ensure consistent messaging and brand representation across all channels/platforms.
- Identify and prioritize trends, best practices, and industry insights to stay up to date with the latest social media developments.
- Manage social media advertising spend and optimize campaigns for maximum ROI.
- Provide social media training and support to internal stakeholders as needed.
- Supervise student assistants and/or students tasked with social media content creation.
- Participate in daily and long-term news planning meetings.
- Collaborate with leadership and operations teams of individual television and radio stations.

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with social media account management, particularly for a media/journalism outlet.
- Experience with social media brand development and marketing.
- Understanding of how to create and execute a data- and analytics-driven social media organizational plan.
- Ability to work with various teams across various disciplines, including supervision and training of students and other staff.
- Expertise in social media content creation tools and software (Adobe Creative Cloud suite of products, Canva, Social News Desk).
- Proficiency in newsroom operating & planning systems (like ENPS, NewsBoss, AP Playbook).
- Content creation experience on social media apps (like Facebook, Instagram, X, Snapchat, YouTube).
- Familiarity with newsroom tools (like Osmo, Mevo, Descript, LiveU & Comrex, etc.).
