Job Summary:
Human-I-T is searching for a Social Media Strategist—a visionary who brings creativity, empathy, and purpose to digital storytelling. As part of our team, you'll craft narratives that bring our mission to life through compelling video and social media content, driving awareness around digital equity and environmental sustainability.
Our ideal candidate is someone who can turn complex issues into relatable and inspiring video stories that captivate audiences across social media platforms. They’ll embody five key character traits that will aid them in resonating with a wide audience:
- Storytelling DNA with Humor & Wit: A former creative writer and visual storyteller with a knack for punchlines and depth. They bring humor and relatability to complex topics like e-waste, making Human-I-T’s mission feel both impactful and engaging.
- Comfortable in Front of AND Behind the Camera: Confident on camera and skilled behind it, they’re a natural storyteller who can shoot, edit, and direct engaging content, seamlessly blending into both individual and team settings. Traveling to different cities/states for distribution and company events will also be a part of your job duties.
- Hope + Impact Focus: Driven by Human-I-T’s "Hope Lives Here" ethos, they create positive, hopeful narratives centered on the tangible impact Human-I-T makes without negativity or blame.
- Social Media Native, Format Fluid: Fluent across platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, they adapt content to fit each medium and experiment with formats ranging from skits to mini-documentaries.
- Innovative and Bold with Purpose: A risk-taker with a sense of mission, someone who can shoot a piece with their phone, an old DSLR, or a full production kit—and still make it resonate and bring a modern, activist’s touch to digital storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Creation & Storytelling: Produce short, impactful videos and skits that educate and inspire, such as day-in-the-life stories of refurbished devices, “Did you know?” segments, and narrative mini-documentaries about Human-I-T’s work.
- Creative Writing Proficiency: Know how to pack a punch in 140 characters and in a 1-minute script.
- On-Camera & Behind-the-Camera: Confidently present and narrate content, directing and producing engaging pieces, from self-shot vlogs to scripted segments.
- Platform-Specific Strategy: Tailor content for TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn, optimizing style and storytelling for each platform's unique audience and format.
- Editing & Production Mastery: Edit polished, high-quality videos using tools like Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, or DaVinci Resolve AND app-based editing interfaces on Instagram and TikTok.
- Creative Ideation: Constantly innovate, taking bold and resourceful approaches to production and content direction while staying true to the Human-I-T mission.
30-60-90 Day Plan
- Understand the Mission: Deep dive into Human-I-T’s issue areas, history, and key initiatives.
- Audience Familiarization: Analyze the current Human-I-T audience demographics and engagement trends across platforms.
- Tech & Content Setup: Familiarize with Human-I-T systems and workflows (Asana, G Suite, Gather)
- First Five Pieces Shared: Have shared at least five unique, fully produced content pieces from start to finish
First 60 Days: Content Creation & Testing
- Platform Testing: Experiment with at least 12 platform-specific content pieces on each of the following platforms: TikTok, Instagram, and LinkedIn gathering insights on audience response.
- First Draft of Content Strategy Deployment: Observing trends and audience response, have a first draft of content strategy for 2025 developed along with a plan to execute on.
- Refine Content Strategy: Based on engagement metrics, optimize strategy and content for top-performing formats and storylines.
- Produce 1 Deep Dive: Produce 1 longer-form, narrative-driven video (3-5 mins) that showcases how Human-I-T’s work addresses a particular issue in a powerful, human-centered light.
- Roadmap for 2025 Mini-Campaigns: Develop a plan to capitalize on moments throughout the rest of the year at opportune times such as Earth Month, Digital Inclusion Week, and more.
This role isn’t just about creating content; it’s about being a human sparkplug, using storytelling to drive digital equity and inspire change. We’re looking for someone who can turn hope into action with every frame.
