Develop and maintain superb professional communication and exceptional customer service to editors, authors, reviewers, vendors, and ASN staff, responding to direct email and through centralized journal inboxes. Work closely with the Managing Editors and Association Director of Publications to develop a working knowledge of editorial processes. Learn and utilize the peer review management system (Editorial Manager) and Kidney News submission system (Kriyadocs), to check-in new submissions and revisions, in support of the Managing Editors' process. Serve as primary back-up in Editorial Manager and Kriyadocs, when needed. Oversee the ASN publication social media accounts on Twitter/X and Bluesky, including drafting posts, and work with ASN’s Marketing Team to help promote the ASN publications through additional social media channels. Support new initiatives of interest to the editorial teams and ASN publications program. Identify, recommend, and implement efficiencies to process within Editorial Manager and Kriyadocs with guidance from Managing Editors and ASN Associate Director of Publications and support from Editorial Solutions Team and Kriyadocs. Provide monthly proof review for Kidney News. Update elements of the journal websites, such as the “Information for Authors” and “Reviewer Guidelines”. Attend meetings as required: Council of Science Editors (CSE), Society for Scholarly Publishing (SSP) and/or International Society of Managing & Technical Editors (ISMTE), vendor meetings, and share advances in peer review and journal publication policies with colleagues. Participate in ASN Publications Committee meetings, staff meetings, and in-person meetings as required. Undertake additional projects and publishing ventures as assigned. Qualifications
Bachelor's degree required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Outlook, and Adobe programs required. Office experience required (internships accepted). Two to three years of scholarly publishing experience preferred. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Highly organized, analytical, and detail oriented. Willingness and ability to seek direction and ask follow-up questions. Experience with manuscript submission and review systems preferred. Advanced skill with various social media platforms in a professional setting preferred. Flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines. Strong awareness of the importance of maintaining confidentiality. Active interest in new developments in scientific publishing and their application to the ASN publications program. Willingness to actively collaborate with ASN's Publications Team and other teams at ASN. Occasional travel and weekend work may be required. This position is based in Washington, DC, where we employ a hybrid work environment (80 days per year in the office required).
