Reporting to the supervisor, the Educational Media Equipment Technician is responsible for administrative and technical work involved in the receiving, inspecting and issuing of film, video, photo, lighting and AV equipment, materials and supplies. Work includes circulating Educational Media equipment through WebCheckout, thorough testing of all equipment, cycle counting and inventories, training of less experienced employees and student workers for WebCheckout. This position will be assigned to the Hillside Annex Campus location and occasionally Hillside Main campus location.
This position is for the
mid-shift : 11:30am - 7:30pm, Monday through Friday.
Essential Functions
Customer Service - 45%Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty and staffEnsure equipment is issued only to those properly authorizedAssist patrons on proper use of equipmentRegularly read and respond to emails from supervisors, staff, and patronsTrain student workers regarding departmental circulation usage and policiesUnderstand all departmental equipment circulation policies, authorizations, and restrictions
Equipment - 50%Ensure all equipment leaving Annex location is accounted for within WebCheckoutInspect, test, identify and document issues from all returned equipment including loss or damageCleaning and disinfecting of equipmentProperly restock returned equipmentFollow written procedures of induction of new equipment into the databaseParticipate in cycle countsMinor troubleshooting and repairsClassroom/Film/Photo Stage equipment delivery and pickupMaintain a clean and orderly workspaceEnsure the daily checklist is completed including, but not limited to:
Reviewing scheduled classroom equipment deliveries/pickupReviewing equipment late list
Non-Essential Duties - 5%Provide Audio Visual and Classroom support as neededOccasional driving, deliveries, and pick-up using ACCD vehiclesIdentify and recommend potential improvements to workflow and operationsDelegate student workers dutiesOther duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:1-3 years of experience in a film/photo production equipment rental environmentKnowledge of inventory control and familiarity with film, video, photography, lighting and AV equipmentAbility to quickly grasp computer-based circulation system utilizing barcodes and scannersEffective interpersonal communication skills necessary for customer service, technical support and vendor contactAbility to apply appropriate judgment when reviewing student late fines and holdsAbility to multitask, prioritize, and complete assigned tasks on timeAbility to handle a variety of complex problems and devise solutionsGood computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Zoom, Mac OS X, Windows)In depth knowledge and experience of all media equipment as necessaryWorking knowledge of, but not limited to, the following professional production equipment:
Camera Systems : Arri, RED, Sony, Panasonic, Black Magic, Canon EOS DSLR, Nikon, 35mm still cameras, medium and large format film cameras, Bolex 16mm, Super 8mm.Audio Equipment : Recorders, Microphones, Cables, Adaptors, and AccessoriesGrip equipment : lighting control, power distributionLighting equipment:
Incandescent, fluorescent, HMI, Strobe and LED lights in various sizes and power levelsAudio Visual : Computers, Media Players, Microphones, Loudspeakers, Data/Video Projectors, Computer/Video Monitors, various cables and adaptors
Valid California driver license, and proof of insurance required as technicians are scheduled to deliver/pick-up equipment to/from repair vendorsProof of covid-19 vaccinationDemonstrated experience in and a commitment to diversity, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within Art Center's diverse communities
