We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Film Archive Coordinator Consultant to help sort, catalog, and manage our film and media asset library. This is a hands-on role that requires direct experience working with archival film elements, physical media, and/or catalog systems. At the outset, the primary focus will be sorting and bringing order to a large, uncatalogued film archive, ensuring materials are safely stored and accurately inventoried.
This role is ideal for someone with working knowledge of traditional film formats, strong archival instincts, and a deep passion for film preservation and restoration. While this is a coordinator-level position, we welcome candidates with deeper experience who are looking to contribute meaningfully in a hands-on, purpose-driven environment. This is a temporary position expected to last 3 months.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the effort to physically sort, identify, and organize a large volume of film assets at the outset of the role
- Catalog assets into a central tracking system, ensuring accurate metadata and location tagging
- Coordinate with internal teams and external labs to support restoration, preservation, and digitization projects
- Support the delivery and intake of materials to/from labs, studios, and offsite storage partners
- Liaise with departments such as Video QC, Content Ops, Creative, and Product Development to align archival efforts with distribution and release plans
- Maintain documentation of archival workflows, project timelines, and vendor communication
- Operate or assist with basic archival equipment, such as film inspection tools, playback monitors, and projectors
- Working knowledge of traditional film formats (16mm & 35mm prints and negatives) and safe handling techniques
- Familiarity with archival practices including sorting, inspecting, and cataloging physical media
- Comfortable working independently with minimal oversight; guidance is available, but no formal training is provided
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records across physical and digital materials
- Experience or aptitude in project coordination, task tracking, and deadline management
- Functional understanding of digital video formats, analog-to-digital workflows, and media specifications
- Technically competent and comfortable using cloud tools, spreadsheets, or digital asset management systems
- Background in archiving, library science, history, moving image studies—or comparable hands-on experience
- Must be reliable, self-motivated, and able to juggle multiple projects with shifting priorities
- Must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States. This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
- Experience sorting or cataloging archival film collections at a studio, lab, or archive
- Exposure to film-to-digital transfer workflows or restoration projects
- Experience inspecting or repairing archival film elements
- Familiarity with nitrate film safety protocols
- Knowledge of digital preservation methods and long-term media asset management
- Previous work in a film library, post-production environment, or film history/preservation setting
