About the Role:
Aquila is seeking a Sr. Editor/Writer to join our team in supporting one of the country’s premier defense research organizations. The Sr. Editor/Writer will maintain and update existing documentation for various program systems. The Sr. Editor/Writer will work with a team focused on a combination of research, proof-of-concept test beds, and system engineering/application efforts focused on the goals of enhancing the capacity, the robustness to interference, and the flexibility of future generations of communications satellites, as well as beyond line-of-sight radio communications systems.
Requirements:
- Must be a U.S Citizen – Authorized to Work in the US – Must be able to obtain an Active Clearance (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
- Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.
What You Will Bring:
- Design descriptions, technical reference and interface control documentation, user guides, and training documents
- Interact with technical staff and create documentation for new programs to include user guides, hardware/software design, and technical reference and interface control documentation.
- Create and edit an online web-based training program to include compliant training materials and video editing, including voice overlay to training videos.
Required Skills:
- Familiarity with R&D/STEM content
- Framemaker
- Software Documentation
- Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign) MS Suite (Excel, PowerPoint)
- Technical Documentation
Must Have Design Experience:
- 5 years – Presentation Design, Poster Design, Document Design, Technical Illustrations, and Photo Manipulation
- 5 years – Familiarity with R&D/STEM content
Program/Project Management OR Analysis Experience:
- 5 years – Software Documentation
Soft Skills:
- Strong Verbal and Written Communication
Software Experience:
- 5 years – Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign)
- 5 years – MS Suite (Excel, PowerPoint)
Software Tools Experience:
- 5 years – Framemaker experience
Writing/Editing Experience:
- 5 years – Proof Reader Marks
- 5 years – Report Editing & Layout
- 5 years – Technical Documentation
Nice to Have:
- Bachelor’s Degree
Programming Experience:
- GIT/GITHUB
Software Tools Experience:
- Experience with SVN
- Familiarity with JIRA / Confluence
Systems Experience:

Location/Remote Work:
This position requires the individual to be predominantly onsite the first 6 months and then will transition to more of a hybrid setup where remote work will be allowable. Candidates should expect to be onsite 1-2 days/week.
Clearance:
Interim clearance is sufficient to start.
