Position Overview
The CAD Technician is responsible for creating design plans for construction projects using various software systems. This role involves producing electronic versions of technical drawings for space planning, identification, measurement, and construction purposes. The Technician will calculate square footage for construction project estimates and engage in block planning and test fits based on programming information provided by business units, adhering to the organization's space and workstation standards. The Technician will collaborate with designers (both internal and external), Construction Project Managers, and the Real Estate Manager to resolve space and drawing issues and maintain an accurate inventory of owned and leased spaces.
Responsibilities
The Technician will develop test fits and take-offs by converting programming data into block plans for decision-making purposes. They will perform square footage calculations for construction estimates, primarily using AutoCAD software on a company-provided computer. Revit and Adobe PDF software may also be utilized for test fits and take-offs.
Managing the CAD file inventory and ensuring best practices are followed is crucial. The Technician will use CAD layering standards and best practices to create accurate plans depicting the organization's space. They will be fully accountable for the accuracy of documentation and will develop file naming conventions and filing systems.
Prioritizing projects to support the team in achieving the organization's goals is essential. The Technician will address issues in drawings provided by other vendors and offer solutions for corrective action.
Tracking and reporting progress is another key responsibility. The Technician will provide regular updates on the status of drawing completion, assist in creating plans to accomplish work, and report on results.
Implementing change control processes for documenting CAD drawings is vital. The Technician will ensure quality and accuracy, participate in bid processes and RFPs related to external vendors providing drawing inventory content.
Maintaining accurate records is important. The Technician will keep detailed and accurate records, ensuring teammate locations are updated in a timely manner.
Creating and maintaining a furniture block library based on established standards is necessary.
The Technician will ensure easy access for planning purposes.
Standardizing page layouts is also a responsibility. The Technician will create and document standard drawing page layouts for the organization.
