- Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
- Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program. Summer is the only semester in which a student can maintain employment without being enrolled. In this case, the student must be pre-registered for the upcoming fall semester. This exception does not apply to fall or spring semesters.
- Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
- Remain in "valid" Visa status as applicable.
- A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Students in their first semester can work, even though they do not have an official GPA until the completion of their first semester.
- Federal Work Study student may apply.
- In good disciplinary standing.

The Archives Media Inventory Assistant supports the Associate Director of Archives and Special Collections and the Collections Archivist in executing accession workflows and improving discovery and access to Berklee Archives collections through detailed inventory creation and assessment for large institutional media collections.
Berklee Archives documents the history, activities, and contributions of the Berklee College of Music and the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, with additional special collections in jazz and popular music. Holdings include extensive collections of event recordings from the College's Video Services office and the Conservatory's Performance Technology office. An estimated 20,000 recordings exist on numerous analog and optical formats across several on- and offsite storage locations requiring inventory, assessment, and rehousing to ensure their ongoing preservation and access.
In particular, this position will prepare 1700+ event recordings on obsolete media for digitization by creating detailed inventories, assessing condition, and securely packaging for shipping. This position may also assist in other inventorying projects
This position will communicate regularly with the project supervisor about progress and problems, and will also have opportunities to create social media content about the collection and project activities. This position reports to the Associate Director of Archives and Special Collections.
Important: This position involves repetitive, granular work and requires use of a personal laptop.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Prepare 1700+ event recordings on obsolete media for digitization by creating detailed inventories, assessing condition, and securely packaging for shipping
- Assess recording condition, identifying damaged or deteriorating items requiring emergency intervention
- Communicate regularly with the supervisor about progress and problems
- Other media inventory projects might include conducting comparative analysis of various inventories and databases to identify 1) assets for retention as preservation and access copies, 2) excess duplicates for disposal, 3) event series for priority digitization
- Optional: draft social media posts about the collection and project activities
- Opportunities to assist with other archival projects depending on availability
Qualifications:
- Organized and detail-oriented, able to perform repetitive tasks for an extended period
- Excellent reading and typing skills
- Experience with data-entry in Google Sheets, Excel, or similar spreadsheet software
- Experience searching and editing data in databases
- Comfortable working independently with good communication skills
- Interest in Berklee and/or music history, or familiarity with jazz/contemporary music a plus but not required
Location and Work Hours:
Berklee Archives has offices in 150 Mass. Ave and 161 Mass Ave. On-campus shifts will generally be in the 150 office. Applicants must be able to commit to at least 7 hours per week. It is preferred to schedule shifts between 10:00am - 4:00pm Monday through Friday, but other hours will be considered pending job performance.
