Position Mission
The Director of PR & Communications is a narrative strategist and thought leader who plays a key role in developing powerful brand storylines that define FOCUS' distinct place in Catholic evangelization and resonate with our key audiences: donors, clergy, college students, parishioners, and alumni. Reporting to the Senior Director of Marketing, the ideal candidate will excel in positioning, message architecture, and audience engagement with a proven track record of shaping and communicating compelling narratives that drive meaningful connections and measurable impact.
In this role, you will oversee the communication of FOCUS’s master narratives through messaging, brand voice, and public relations initiatives. You will collaborate with executive leadership, the Internal Communications team, and work across departments to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment in all communication efforts. Additionally, you will partner closely with the Marketing team to ensure that all messaging, campaigns, and initiatives authentically reflect FOCUS's mission and are strategically positioned to advance organizational objectives.
Responsibilities
- External Communication Strategy and Brand Messaging
- Create and execute integrated communication plans aligned with organizational goals.
- Develop and maintain a unified brand voice across all platforms.
- Oversee messaging approval for high-impact initiatives.
- Track and report communication metrics, refining strategies accordingly.
- Public Relations and Media Engagement
- Serve as the primary spokesperson and media contact.
- Manage press releases, interview coordination, and media training.
- Build relationships with media, influencers, and partners.
- Identify opportunities to increase visibility in media.
- Lead PR efforts for organizational initiatives like SEEK.
- Develop media kits and talking points for spokespeople.
- Content Development and Oversight
- Oversee message development that reflects FOCUS’s mission and values.
- Manage content review across platforms ensuring clarity and consistency.
- Curate stories showcasing missionaries, students, alumni, and events.
- Internal and External Communications
- Collaborate across departments to meet communication needs.
- Support internal alignment through staff and leadership messaging.
- Partner with Internal Communications for organization-wide messaging consistency.
- Leadership and Team Development
- Foster a culture of creativity, clarity, and collaboration.
- Ensure adherence to communication protocols and brand standards.
Qualifications
- Deep alignment with FOCUS’s mission and values.
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field.
- 5–10 years experience in communications and media relations.
- Proven success in strategic communications planning.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Understanding of Catholic media and Church culture is preferred.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated pay range is $115,000 - $125,000/year, subject to adjustment based on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, paid time off, holidays, and more.
