Overview
Responsible for the overall management of the respective studio and the work of multiple project teams focused on the design, development, and delivery of outstanding solutions for a practice area or building type. Executes the practice strategy in the studio(s).
The Studio Practice Leader often leads multiple projects with multiple clients concurrently. The role emphasizes leadership development, relationship-building, collaboration, and interpersonal skills while managing great projects for exceptional clients.
Responsibilities
- Oversees projects assigned to the studio, focusing on process, service/delivery, work environment, and documentation.
- Collaborates in strategic planning and facilitates communication with other leaders, including marketing strategy and resource allocation.
- Partners with studio and office leadership to further the firm's strategic goals.
- Manages all project phases from programming and design through construction, ensuring client needs are met.
- Guides and mentors project teams, develops design direction, and leads critiques.
- Acts as primary client interface, understanding their mission, goals, and needs.
- Manages client expectations, team communication, and consultant coordination.
- Monitors staffing, utilization, and growth, recommending adjustments as needed.
- Evaluates studio efficiency and effectiveness across staff, business, and financial operations.
- Provides technical support and helps staff grow professionally.
- Reviews conceptual development and leads the design team to ensure high-quality documentation and client satisfaction.
- Communicates firm initiatives and priorities, emphasizing strategic priorities like Design Measures.
- Operates with a “ONE Firm” mindset, minimizing operational variables.
- Integrates services, expertise, and innovation, seeking opportunities for best practices and sustainable design solutions.
- Uses persuasion and negotiation skills on critical issues.
Qualifications
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field; licensure preferred.
- Typically 15+ years of experience, including leadership roles and success in project work and talent development.
- Significant experience in the practice area of the studio.
- Sustainable design accreditation preferred.
- Familiarity with design software and Vision.
- Experience with MS Office, Microsoft Project, and Teams preferred.
- Proven leadership in business development and client relationship building.
- Excellent presentation, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and foster collaboration.
- Strong problem-solving and innovative thinking skills.
- Willingness to travel.
Base Salary Range: $115- $160K annually – Seattle location only. The actual salary is influenced by experience, education, and other factors.
