Job Responsibilities Manage primary and excess Design Professional claims, including those for architects, engineers, and design build contractors. Conduct thorough investigations, analyze coverage, assess liability, and evaluate damages while adhering to industry best practices. Review claims to understand the nature of the loss, coverage scope, and to guide strategic settlement decisions. Cultivate and maintain relationships with partners and act as the primary contact for assigned claims. Collaborate closely with the Specialty Complex Claims team on coverage disputes, including litigation matters. Identify coverage issues and make recommendations for outside counsel assignments as necessary. Develop claims strategies and manage outside legal counsel efficiently. Ensure cost management related to litigation and collaborate with the Vendor Management team to enhance vendor panels. Communicate effectively with senior executives, brokers, reinsurers, underwriters, and other key stakeholders. Assist underwriting with inquiries related to policy drafting and risk aspects based on claim analysis and trends. Maintain and document key statistics and metrics for the line of business. Lead presentations and discussions on large claims and trends with Underwriters and Insureds. Participate in claim audits, and provide formal reports on results. Analyze liability and coverage trends and implement processes for effective claims handling across various segments. Perform additional duties as assigned. Preferred Skills & Qualifications: 5-10+ years of experience managing Casualty and/or Specialty Lines claims. Strong leadership, organizational, and management skills, ideally with legal practice experience. Ability to influence and build relationships across all organizational levels while managing complex claims. Analytical thinker who can navigate legal and claims processes to drive results. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to address diverse opinions and expectations. Proven experience handling complex casualty claims with the ability to report and present findings to management. In-depth understanding of legal processes including claims, litigation, arbitration, and negotiating. Bachelor's degree is required; a JD is a bonus. Technical skills in complex coverage analysis and evaluation, with strong writing and negotiation capabilities. Experience leading teams and managing personnel effectively. Familiarity with KPIs, data, and metrics is advantageous. Valid state licenses as required, with the flexibility to obtain additional states as needed. The anticipated base salary for this role is $160,000 - $180,000. Note that travel may be required for team management, court proceedings, mediations, and settlements.
