Job Summary: As a full-time Senior Sweater Designer, you will be the primary person responsible for all sweater design, concepting, and some product development for a successful private label apparel manufacturer that sells to the Gen Z Market. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Merchandising, Production, and Sales, to bring trend-right, commercially viable designs to fruition. Key Responsibilities:
Trend Research & Concept Development: Conduct thorough market research to stay ahead of emerging trends, streetwear culture, and Gen Z fashion preferences. Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, and color stories for sweaters and knitwear, drawing inspiration from social media, influencers, and pop culture. Translate high street trends into designs that resonate with our target customer. Design & Development: Create original sweater designs with a strong focus on silhouettes, stitches, textures, and innovative techniques that embody a youthful aesthetic. Select appropriate yarns and materials that align with the brand's goals and quality standards. Develop comprehensive tech packs with detailed specifications, stitch layouts, and construction notes. Partner with technical designers and factories to ensure proper fit, fabric performance, and production feasibility. Review lab dips, strike-offs, and knit-downs to ensure color and quality consistency. Work closely with the merchandising team to ensure designs align with pricing strategies and market positioning. Brand & Market Awareness: Maintain a deep understanding of the Gen Z consumer by analyzing fashion movements, social media trends, and key influencers. Ensure all designs reflect the brands aesthetic while pushing boundaries to keep collections fresh and exciting. Qualifications & Skills:
Design Expertise: Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field. 5-8 years of experience in knitwear/sweater design, preferably within a fast-fashion or Gen Z-focused brand. Exceptional taste level with a strong portfolio demonstrating a youthful aesthetic and 'young handwriting' in design. Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of yarns, knitting techniques, stitches, and garment construction. Ability to create detailed tech packs and specifications for production. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and familiarity with 3D design software (e.g., CLO3D, Browzwear) is a plus.
