Summary:

• We are seeking a community focused journalist who will be responsible for covering local news, writing engaging stories, capturing high-quality photo/video content, and assisting with page design for print and digital platforms. This role plays a key part in delivering timely, relevant news to the communities served by The Seward County Independent, The Milford Times, The Crete News, The Wilber Republican, and The Friend Sentinel.

Who You Are:

• A hard worker who is detail-oriented, community focused, and creative.
• Passionate about local journalism and community storytelling.
• Hold a degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
• Experienced in reporting, writing, and photography (newspaper or media experience is a plus).
• Skilled in writing, editing, and research.
• Proficient in Adobe InDesign and Photoshop—or eager to learn.
• Able to work independently and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.
• Highly organized with strong time-management skills.

What You'll Do:

• Report and write general news stories, including local events, government meetings, business features, and human-interest pieces.
• Conduct interviews and research to provide accurate, well-rounded reporting.
• Capture and edit compelling photographs to accompany news stories.
• Assist with page layout and design using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.
• Publish content across digital and print platforms.
• Engage with the community to identify newsworthy topics and build relationships with local sources.
• Collaborate with the editorial team to ensure high-quality, timely content.
• Work within deadlines to meet weekly newspaper production schedules.
• Continuously seek ways to improve storytelling, reporting, and reader engagement.
