Our obligation is to the truth and to our readers — the students, staff, and faculty of Seattle Central as well as the citizens of Capitol Hill and the city of Seattle.As Editor-in-Chief, you will lead the editorial vision and strategy of our publication, ensuring content that aligns with The Seattle Collegian’s mission and engages our audience, with a focus on the Seattle Central College community. This role involves overseeing the editorial team, managing workflows, maintaining editorial standards, and keeping our content relevant and impactful. You'll serve as the key decision-maker for all editorial operations, collaborating with writers, editors, and contributors to deliver compelling stories while meeting deadlines and maintaining a positive, encouraging work environment.Key ResponsibilitiesAssists the advisor in hiring staff membersAssists the advisor in adhering to the yearly budgetAssists the advisor in training new staff membersAttends all weekly staff meetingsLeads said meetingsAttends weekly meetings with the advisor and managing editorServes as a member of the Communications BoardServes as a non-voting member of the Publications BoardWrites, reviews, and/or edits the content of Letters from the Editorial BoardMakes executive decisions with the Editorial Board as outlined in Section IVAdheres to deadlines decided by the Editorial BoardPosts new articles to the websiteHolds weekly office hours in the Seattle Collegian officeRequirementsMust be an enrolled student at Seattle Central CollegeMinimum one year of experience in journalism or related fieldSolid knowledge of AP Style guidelines & attention to grammarFamiliarity with SPJ’s Ethics of JournalismStrong writing and editing skills, as well as strategic thinking to shape The Seattle Collegian’s editorial visionLeadership or management experience (preferred)Experience in WordPress, Slack, and Google Suite (preferred)Seniority level
