At GBH, we believe in the advantages of coming together to build community, mentor and learn from colleagues, and connect more deeply with our mission. As a result, the majority of our staff are hybrid and work both from home and onsite. Our current hybrid approach requires staff to work onsite a minimum of two days each week, every Tuesday and one other day, to be determined by their business unit. Hybrid staff are also welcome to come in additional days each week or may be asked to come in on other days by their manager.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The GBH Production Group oversees GBH production and post-production operations and is comprised of two divisions:
GBH Studios which manage and staff studio and EFP production, Fraser Studio operations, GBH public spaces, and the remote studio at Boston Public Library.
GBH OutPost, which provides post-production services, including color-grading and online, audio mixing and sweetening, sound booth recording, and duplication/encoding operations.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Technical Director will work in the studios and will collaborate closely with the TV director and technical crew to ensure the show rundown is executed cleanly and accurately. Take a leading role overseeing the technical specifications necessary for the production. Clear and concise dissemination of control room traffic to the necessary personnel is critical and a sharp eye on detail is a must. The Technical Director needs to support the technical needs of a wide variety of internal and external clients for live/pre-tape productions and special programming.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in the studios and collaborate closely with the TV director and technical crew to ensure the show rundown is executed cleanly and accurately.
- Take a leading role overseeing the technical specifications necessary for the production.
- Support the technical needs of a wide variety of internal and external clients for live/pre-tape productions and special programming.
SKILL SET
- Deep knowledge of a GV Karrera switcher.
- Ability to learn the signal flow and router at our production facility.
- Understanding of video shading, lighting, audio and VTR and how it integrates in each recording.
- Willingness to train and educate both technical staff and producers.
- Requires a creative thinker who is adept at collaboration, organization, and TV technology.
- Must have superior, rapid-response and calm customer service skills.
- Possess excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team is required.
- Ability to meet critical deadlines.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.
- 3 to 5 or more years of experience in video production.
- Live news and music experience is a plus.
- Experience with livestreaming and digital control rooms such as vMix are ideal.
