We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Technical Writer/Editor to join our team in a full-time 6 month project-based role with the strong potential for an extension. In this role, you'll take the lead in crafting, refining, and drafting technical documents with minimal supervision. This role requires expertise in writing, editing, formatting, and ensuring consistency across various written materials in alignment with established style guides. You'll collaborate closely with subject matter experts, clients, and internal teams to polish content for external-facing products, making complex information accessible and engaging.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Draft and create a variety of deliverables such as reports, marketing materials, and presentations with feedback from internal stakeholders to create the final product.
- Review and edit documents for style, flow, and conciseness, ensuring clarity and effectiveness.
- Balance copy editing and line editing efforts with project needs, impact, audience, and schedule constraints.
- Manage team schedules to ensure project deadlines are met.
- Conduct research through interviews and discussions to recommend process improvements.
- Utilize and adapt existing marketing templates to ensure consistency across written deliverables.
- Maintain high-quality writing standards, ensuring compliance with established style guides.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert for Microsoft Word support, including troubleshooting formatting, style, layout, and pagination issues for desktop publishing.
- Draft agendas and meeting minutes to facilitate productive discussions and track progress on projects and initiatives.
- Present findings and provide actionable insights to stakeholders.
Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in technical writing, editing, or a related role.
- Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Word, including advanced formatting and desktop publishing features.
- Strong understanding of editorial standards and Federal plain language guidelines.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an eye for detail and consistency.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and stakeholders.
- Familiarity with government and transportation-related documentation is a plus.
