Overview
The Audio/Visual Technician provides expertise and support for all events on campus with technical requirements. This position works directly with the Lead AV Technician to coordinate and implement all audio/visual needs, sound and lighting production, and stage management for events held on campus throughout the year. The position should be able to complete tasks independently and with minimal supervision. This position must be able to work quickly and safely with a variety of equipment and have a thorough understanding of all sound, lighting, and video needs. The A/V Technician position is essential to support the extensive number of events throughout the year at varying times of the day, including evenings and weekends. In addition to running audio visual equipment during events, this position will also set up A/V equipment in preparation for events.
Essential Job Functions:
50 % A. Install, adjust, and operate electronic equipment (sound, lighting, and projection) needed for events. Collaborate with the Lead AV Technician to determine the necessary technical support, such as lighting, sound, staging, and special needs, necessary for events and performances.
20 % B. Monitor the condition of equipment including: lighting, sound, and rigging equipment. Arrange for the repair and replacement within budgetary constraints (notify supervisor when major equipment repairs are needed). Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
10 % C. Maintain an inventory of audio, video, and related supplies.
10 % D. Troubleshoot and decide the best way to proceed in case of equipment failure. Work with clients, keeping them abreast of any problems encountered and propose solutions for a smooth and successful event.
Education:
Required: H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: Associates Degree in Music, Music Production, Theatre, Theatre Production, or certificate in audio and event production.
Professional Experience:
Required: Two years demonstrated experience in sound, lighting, and projection with ability to coordinate multiple simultaneous projects in several different venues.
Preferred: Three years demonstrated experience in sound, lighting, and projection with ability to coordinate multiple simultaneous projects in several different venues. Experience working in venues with a capacity over 500 guests. Experience with live- streaming events. Experience working as a technician in a higher education setting.
