LIBRARY AIDE
Contract Period: Academic-year position, 40 hours/week, non-exempt
Supervisor: Director of Library and Media Services
Qualifications: Experience supervising and supporting high school students, with a genuine enthusiasm for adolescent development and a commitment to creating a supportive, student-focused atmosphere; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; attention to detail; willingness to learn library procedures; computer skills. Bilingual abilities, art/design, crafts, makerspace experience, and library sciences background or equivalent education/experience are pluses.
Profile of a Pinkerton Library Aide
The primary role of a Pinkerton Library Aide is to support the library program by engaging with students and community members, fostering a welcoming environment that promotes connection, belonging, and personal learning. Aide should be patient, reliable, and welcoming, contributing to a positive environment that supports students' academic and social-emotional development.
As part of the school community, aides should demonstrate a collaborative attitude and uphold Pinkerton’s values of courtesy, respect, and responsibility in interactions with students, staff, and parents. Professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, and ongoing growth are expected from all employees, aligned with policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.

Service
- Maintain a welcoming, safe space for diverse students using library resources.
- Supervise the library during assigned and as-needed periods.
- Support students with makerspace projects, technology, and hands-on activities.
- Assist with research, reader’s advisory, and computer troubleshooting.
- Help promote library programs and resources, including diverse offerings.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Library and Media Services.
Organization
- Manage library materials, including shelving, circulation, inventory, and record-keeping.
- Support book processing activities like cataloging, covering, and weeding.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and assist in book repair.
Physical Demands
- Walk within the library and between buildings.
- Stand for 45-80 minutes.
- Lift up to 25 pounds regularly.
