The position falls within the substation department of the organization. The designer will develop construction drawings for substations projects. They will supervise and mentor lower level designers. Primary duties and responsibilities include: Developing a substation design layout with scoping information and general guidance from Design Engineer Independently developing 2-D drawings and 3-D models of electrical substation features and components using MicroStation Developing layout of parts and assemblies in 2-D and 3-D Modifying and/or updating existing models, assemblies, and layouts to reflect changes to the design Working with part naming and numbering conventions; and file naming and management protocols Creating or modifying physical drawings such as single line diagrams, station location plans, electrical assemblies, cable and conduit plans, cable schedules, grounding plans, and other details and drawings that will provide sufficient detail and information to construct an electrical substation with minimal guidance of project lead engineer Using ProjectWise for project documentation to track all design modifications and new designs Handling complex projects without supervision Coordinating with people from other departments who are involved in a design project Supervising and mentoring less experienced designers Checking and validating drawings for the project and the drawings of peers and subordinates Functioning as a project lead on small, less complicated projects with little guidance Education and experience requirements: Six years of experience designing physical layouts, equipment layouts, plan views, elevation views, section views, and creating detailed bills of material Six years of design experience using AutoCAD Experience checking design packages preferred Associate degree in applied science (AAS) in drafting and computer aided (CAD) design or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology or equivalent experience and/or education Pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
