The Library Assistant reports to the Coordinator of Library Services. The employee in this position works evening and weekend hours. RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions: Supervise circulation and reference areas including assisting students, faculty, and staff. Supervise student assistants. Assist in the library as needed including shelving books and weeding. Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete responsibilities of the position. Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices. Secondary - Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Library Services. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate's Degree required. Ability to accept supervision and instruction, and to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty. Experience in Library/Media Center preferred. Experience with library automation systems preferred. Physical requirements: exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, and to operate additional office equipment; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; Visual acuity to view a computer terminal; lifting items for shelving may be required; Medium/Indoor and outdoor work environment. Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position. SALARY and STATUS: The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This part-time nonexempt support staff position is not benefit eligible and is at-will.
