Position Summary:
NYU Langone Health is the Clinical Science Core for a major NIH grant to study Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 Infection (PASC) or Long COVID. This 4-year initiative aims to answer key research questions needed to advance the scientific community's understanding of Long COVID and discover effective therapeutics to address it. The RECOVER Public Relations Manager position is part of the Clinical Science Core (CSC) whose purpose is to coordinate the development and implementation of master protocols; to provide expertise in clinical protocol design, implementation; and execution of large clinical research studies for the PASC grant. This is an interdepartmental effort that spans the Office of Science and Research, Department of Medicine, Department of Population Health and Medical Center IT. Reporting to the Program Director, Communications and Engagement, the RECOVER Public Relations Manager takes responsibility for working with our research partners and a large network of participating clinical research sites to increase public awareness of the initiative and implement tactics to promote recruitment. While leading the handling of media requests and inquiries, the individual works in collaboration with the National Institutes of Health Media Engagement and Relations Branch, as well as the CSC Office of Communications and Marketing to externally promote RECOVER research milestones.
Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as liaison between observational study enrollment sites and RECOVER media teams across RECOVER Cores (CSC, ACC, DRC, PBC, and DCRI)
- Centralize and manage media and public relations content for all RECOVER Cores
- Conduct news and social media monitoring via designated media tool(s); train key users across RECOVER media teams; and develop monitoring reports
- Conduct media trainings for Investigators and key research personnel ahead of media interviews
- Create and manage RECOVER media coverage and inquiries repository
- Develop and maintain relationships with key healthcare, wellness, medicine, and science journalists and track corresponding coverage
- Manage the launch, development, and distribution of the RECOVER Weekly
- Identify and flag research/publications of interest with NIH media partners at NHLBI, NINDS, and NIAID and coordinate external promotion via:
- Press Releases
- Social Media (NIH Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook accounts)
- Proactive outreach to media contacts
Core Responsibilities:
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with media contacts; serve as spokesperson and key media relations lead for RECOVER.
- Work cross-functionally to identify impactful RECOVER research and milestones and amplify their promotion through key messages, press releases, events, and campaigns.
- Coach researchers on effective communication techniques and preparation for media interviews.
- Evaluate success of communication strategies using web analytics, media monitoring, and other metrics; present findings to senior leaders.
- Enforce brand guidelines, messaging consistency, and graphic standards for all RECOVER publications and content.
- Collaborate with research sites nationwide to provide guidance on aligning local and national messaging.
