Hardware and Robotics Editor (Finance)
Yahoo serves as a trusted guide for hundreds of millions of people globally, helping them achieve their goals online through our portfolio of iconic products. For advertisers, Yahoo Advertising offers omnichannel solutions and powerful data to engage with our brands and deliver results.
TechCrunch is seeking a Hardware Editor who's well-versed in the underpinnings of AI technology, and how it overlaps with applications across robotics, manufacturing and consumer hardware. The ideal candidate would be able to communicate the importance and impact of the intersection of robotics and hardware for a diverse audience: from seasoned founders and investors, to a curious general audience inclined to deepen their related knowledge and expertise in the area. Ideally, the person who occupies this role will also have a wide range of knowledge across a variety of technical subjects to inform their perspective.
This role will collaborate closely with, and generally contribute to our combined, world-class TechCrunch editorial team. If you have a strong passion for technology, and in particular for emerging trends in industrial and consumer hardware and how they overlap with AI, this is your opportunity to be a key part of the conversation on a global scale.
Who You Are:
- A versatile storyteller who thrives in both breaking news and crafting deeply reported features.
- A sharp thinker with a distinct voice, unafraid to share informed perspectives, backed by solid reporting.
- A collaborative team player who can elevate your own work and that of others.
- Self-motivated, with a hunger to break news and uncover stories that matter.
- Comfortable (or willing to become comfortable) on camera and on stage.
- Eager to collaborate with smart colleagues across TechCrunch, including our events team.
Responsibilities:
- Break news regularly, staying ahead of the curve in a fast-moving industry.
- Write in-depth features on the businesses and individuals driving change in robotics, consumer hardware and AI.
- Build and nurture relationships with sources to land key interviews and profile industry leaders.
- Cut through the noise to identify what's truly impactful versus overhyped in the tech world.
- Create world-class editorial programming for our event stages around hardware, robotics and AI.
- Work with TechCrunch's social team to create high quality video and multimedia assets to help tell relevant stories to our audiences across platforms.
- Work with other editorial leaders to align coverage priorities with those of the overall publication and audience expectations.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure every story meets TechCrunch's high standards.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience as a business or tech reporter, with a proven track record of breaking news.
- Strong interest in technology trends, key players, and the evolving AI landscape.
- Demonstrated success in developing sources and uncovering scoops.
- Ability to differentiate between substance and bluster in a fast-changing industry.
- Availability to work from our San Francisco office twice a week.
The material job duties and responsibilities of this role include those listed above as well as adhering to Yahoo policies; exercising sound judgment; working effectively, safely and inclusively with others; exhibiting trustworthiness and meeting expectations; and safeguarding business operations and brand integrity.
