Boston Globe Media is seeking an experienced Real Estate Editor to lead our coverage of residential real estate in the weekly Address section of The Boston Globe newspaper and on Boston.com. The editor will conceptualize fresh ideas, assign freelance writers, and then edit their work for publication in print and online.
This role requires a profound understanding of residential real estate across the Greater Boston region. Your work will help people navigate buying, selling, and owning property while also exploring broader themes such as livability, affordability, and market dynamics.
This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strategic mindset, and a passion for journalism that informs and resonates with local readers.
Responsibilities:
- Assign, guide, and edit a range of pieces including news, features, trends, and columns for publication in the weekly print Address section and on Boston.com.
- Handle weekly print responsibilities, including working with the copy desk, the visual/photo department, and layout and page design teams.
- Handle digital production work and audience engagement tasks including social media, SEO, and newsletters.
- Coordinate with multiple desks producing related coverage, including the Boston.com News team, the Globe Business and Living Arts departments, and Boston Home magazine.
- Recruit and manage freelance contributors, ensuring a consistent stream of coverage.
- Work with staff reporters on specific storylines and projects.
Qualifications:
- At least five years of daily editing experience.
- Excellent news judgment and a keen sense for stories that provide value to readers.
- Experience with commissioning freelance contributors is a plus.
- A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment
The BGMP office is located in downtown Boston, near Faneuil Hall and Quincy Market, and is easily accessible by MBTA and commuter rail lines. This position is based in Boston, and candidates should be based in the area or willing to move.
This position is a union position covered by a collective bargaining agreement with the Boston Newspaper Guild.
