Education and Experience:Minimum Education: BA/BS and PA Certificate: Instructional I Special Education-Blind/Visual Impairments or Educational Specialist I: Visual Impairments; In addition, Special Education Teacher certification preferredMinimum Experience: 0-3 Years experience
The annual salary range for this position is $49,845-$91,045 for a qualified candidate with a Bachelors Degree, and $50,845-$92,045 for qualified candidates with a Masters Degree. Salary step credit will be given for verified/approved professional experience, based on our board policy.
General Definition:The Teacher of the Visually Impaired is responsible for the screening, assessment and development of individual education plans for blind/visually impaired students, and adhering to the applicable laws and policies that govern special education. An educator certified in this field may provide staff development services regarding their collegial studies/skills and may serve in the role of mentor, advisor, consultant, and advocate for the students in which they service. Teachers of the visually impaired also assist students in understanding the expanded core curriculum as well other curricular materials related to the subject areas, and make the necessary adaptations and modifications, in accordance with their students' individual programs. This professional is responsible for meeting the duties of teaching as outlined in CSPG No. 60, laws, Board Policy and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Description of Duties:
Participate in IEP Team meetings.Conduct initial, interim and annual Individual Educational Plan Conferences.Prepare, implement and revise, as necessary, students' Individual Educational Plans.Prepare and follow lesson plans for daily individual and group instruction.Assess students' performances in relation to curricular goals and objectives specified in their Individual Educational Plans.Recommend students for related services and coordinate such services with classroom activities.Integrate and reinforce students' regular and special education activities.Plan for and direct other assisting personnel such as instructional aides and student teachers.Organize classroom in an attractive and functional manner.Inventory, maintain and request materials and equipment.Maintain and disseminate student progress, attendance and child tracking information.Participate as a staff member of the assigned school building(s).Participate in applicable due process procedures.Pursue professional growth and development.Represent the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit in a professional manner, consulting either the building principal or supervisor where procedures are in doubt.Develop a reporting system so that parent contact is part of an annual routine.Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director or designee.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Other:Act 114 (Federal Criminal History), Act 34, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History Clearance and Act 126 (Mandatory Reporter) clearances as well as valid PA driver's license.Clearances must be current within 5 years from date of hire and a School Personnel Health Record current within 1 year from date of hire accompanied by Tuberculosis Test Result within 3 months of date of hire.
