Description
The Solar System Designer’s primary responsibilities are to create solar PV system designs and plan-sets for properties owned by our nonprofit and affordable housing clients. This includes:
Collaborating with the Sr Solar Design Manager and the Project Management Team to ensure that technical specifications meet client requirements
Conducting detailed site evaluations to assess technical feasibility and to take measurements to inform system design
Creating single-line diagrams and other technical documentation required for interconnection applications to the utility grid
Ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards
Overseeing the technical aspects of system design, and providing support during system commissioning.
Responsibilities
Assess potential solar project sites to determine feasibility and design requirements; use site audit and design platform (e.g., Scanifly drone system) to capture site images and gather data
Develop comprehensive solar PV system designs, including photovoltaic layouts, electrical single-line diagrams, and system specifications.
Engage with utility companies to understand interconnection requirements and process interconnection agreements.
Utilize solar design and shading analysis software (e.g., Scanifly and Aurora) to optimize system performance.
Coordinate with stakeholders to collect necessary site data, technical information, and to ensure design compliance with local codes and regulations.
Provide technical support during the installation phase to ensure adherence to design specifications.
Update and maintain project documentation within the company's database, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of design records.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline design processes and workflow.
Monitor industry trends and updates in solar technology to continually improve design practices.
Support financial analysis of projects by providing design-related inputs and cost estimates.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field preferred.
Comparable industry experience or relevant vocational training, particularly in technical or design aspects of solar PV systems, will be considered equally valuable.
Experience:
At least two years of prior experience in solar design or electrical engineering is required.
Direct solar system installation experience is preferred, but other experience with the technical aspects of solar systems, electrical diagrams, and regulatory codes is acceptable.
Previous battery energy storage system (BESS) design experience is preferred
Drone pilot’s license and operational experience with flying drones is preferred.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD is highly desirable.
Competence in Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets) and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is essential.
Experience with Adobe Illustrator or similar design tools would be beneficial.
Travel:
Role involves periodic site visits for assessment and design purposes. A valid driver’s license is required.
Access to a vehicle is preferred; we reimburse miles traveled (except commuting) at the federal rate.
The company reimburses mileage at federally set rates.
Availability:
A minimum of 35 hours per week during Resonant hours of operation, 9 AM- 5 PM or 8 AM - 4 PM, Monday-Friday (including 1 hour per day for lunch).
Hybrid Schedule:
A hybrid schedule of 3 in-person days and 2 remote work days per week, following a three-month training period.
Our office in Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood is spacious, with lots of natural light and easy accessibility from South Station
In addition to the hybrid schedule, the option for 6 weeks of fully remote work is available as part of the company's flexible work policy.
$70,000 - $85,000
