The Opportunity
The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) in the College of Health Professions and Sciences (CHPS) is pleased to invite applications for a part-time, non-tenure earning, 12-month, research assistant professor position to begin Spring 2025. The ideal candidate will have expertise in spatial sound reproduction techniques for use in human psychoacoustic studies and will work independently and collaboratively with faculty in CSD and in the Communication Technologies Research Center (CTRC).
The successful candidate will join a diverse faculty and staff in a dynamic university with high research activity (RU/H), a robust clinical program with established patient populations, and an environment that fosters collaboration, innovation, and professional development. They will contribute to essential research activity supporting current research efforts.
The Communication Technologies Research Center (CTRC) is a newly established research hub in the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders focused on basic and applied research to solve communication problems through the combination of behavioral sciences, electrophysiology, assistive technology, and computational methods. Current projects are funded by NIH NIDCD and industry partners. We are seeking individuals who are passionate about research to collaborate with a new team of faculty, scientists, post-docs, and students. We are creating a vibrant, multi-disciplinary environment that includes experts in audiology, hearing science, neuroscience, electrical and biomedical engineering, speech science, voice science, and aerodigestive systems. Applicants should have enthusiasm for research, a mind for innovation and creativity, a desire to work in a thriving team atmosphere, and a capacity for acquiring expertise in new research techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Acoustics, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a related discipline from an accredited institution at the time of hire.
At least two years of scholarly research experience, especially in the areas of human psychoacoustics and spatial sound processing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in room acoustics.
Expertise in spatial sound reproduction techniques (e.g., Ambisonics, headphone-based virtual audio, etc.).
Expertise in human spatial hearing/psychoacoustics.
Experience with human-subjects testing and data management.
A history of peer-reviewed publications and funded research or the potential for obtaining research funding, commensurate with experience.
Demonstrated record of collaboration with multi-disciplinary research or educational teams.
Demonstrated record of excellence or potential for excellence in service, commensurate with experience.
