SALARY:
$8,001 - $12,129 /per month Non-PERS Rate
$8,480 - $12,857 /per month PERS Rate
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The UI/UX Engineer position is an exciting new role for our agency and will be vital in our journey to implement modern digital products that emphasize user-centered design, accessibility, and the digital user experience. As part of the Application Development team, this position acts as the primary expert for our software products’ digital user experience and provides senior-level user interface design, user experience research and design, and accessibility technical expertise.
This position participates in application and systems development and design, conducts user experience research, and performs UX development and design. This position is also responsible for design system and code handoff platform architecture and design, and design versioning platform long-term planning and strategy. This position is critical for modernizing agency information technology digital products, enabling their maintainability, ensuring quality and accessible product user experience, and for minimizing the operating and enhancement cost associated with these modern solutions.

And if you have experience with user experience research and a desire to work with design and design versioning platforms, code handoff tools, and accessibility tools such as, but not limited to: Figma, Supernova, Sketch, InVision, Storybook, Lean UX, UXPin, PenPot, Adobe XD, Lighthouse, and various UX research methods. TO QUALIFY:
Your application must demonstrate education and/or experience in the following:
(a) Seven (7) years of information systems experience in web application or software development/engineering. Experience must include responsibilities for planning, designing, developing, and maintaining software user interfaces.*
With a total of (2) years of experience utilizing design systems to create and maintain digital products.
*Years of experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or related technologies may substitute for information systems experience if it includes working on application/software development teams to deliver software applications.
OR
(b) An Associate's degree* or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, OR completion of a two (2) year accredited vocational training program in information technology or related field;
AND
five (5) years of information systems experience in web application or software development/engineering. Experience must include responsibilities for planning, designing, developing, and maintaining software user interfaces.*
With a total of (2) years of experience utilizing design systems to create and maintain digital products.
*Years of experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or related technologies may substitute for information systems experience if it includes working on application/software development teams to deliver software applications.
OR
(c) A Bachelor's degree* in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
AND
three (3) years of information systems experience in web application or software development/engineering. Experience must include responsibilities for planning, designing, developing, and maintaining software user interfaces.*
With a total of (2) years of experience utilizing design systems to create and maintain digital products.
*Years of experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or related technologies may substitute for information systems experience if it includes working on application/software development teams to deliver software applications.
OR
(d) A Master's degree* in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
AND
one (1) year of information systems experience in web application or software development/engineering. Experience must include responsibilities for planning, designing, developing, and maintaining software user interfaces.*
With a total of (2) years of experience utilizing design systems to create and maintain digital products.
*Years of experience in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or related technologies may substitute for information systems experience if it includes working on application/software development teams to deliver software applications.

As the most competitive candidate, your application will demonstrate the following requested skills and experience:
- Demonstrated skills in communication, verbal and written, with the ability to create presentations of technical subject matter for technical, business-technical, and non-technical end-user audiences that translates critical information effectively.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and conflict management skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, peers, various functional teams, business partners, and external stakeholders.
- Planning skills with demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple operational and project tasks at once, including responsibilities under conflicting and time-sensitive deadlines.
- Ability to explain complex software development design and user experience concepts and challenges to general IT team members and complex technical design system and user-centered design concepts to project and application development delivery teams. This may include translating concepts into tangible user research materials, design prototypes, and design system handoffs for production systems.
- A clear understanding of the relationship between the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), front-end and back-end application layers, user interface and user experience, versioning design systems, and design system handoff automation.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices and experience implementing accessibility into software or services maintained.
- General knowledge of digital design, branding, and tracking user experience and branding metrics.
Preference may be awarded for:
- Professional experience with designing and reviewing accessible interfaces to WCAG, section 508, or similar standards
- Professional experience with developer centric design system and/or design versioning (control) systems (Figma, Storybook, Adobe XD, etc.)
- Professional experience with automating design to code handoff processes
- Professional experience conducting primary and secondary research, that included multiple stakeholder and end-user types, for the user experience and accessibility of digital products
- Professional experience translating user experience and/or accessibility research into the digital user experience for a digital product.
- Professional experience with managing and maintaining the user experience of a digital product throughout the entire product lifecycle (not solely the initial creation)
