The Cambridge School is seeking a thoughtful humanities educator to serve as a long-term substitute in our Upper School. This position will cover two courses: 8th Grade Composition and Literature and 9th Grade Medieval and Reformation Literature. The ideal candidate will bring a love of literature, a strong command of writing instruction, and a desire to guide students through great texts in a sustained and careful manner. This long-term substitute position will cover from the beginning of November through the beginning of March, with potential opportunities for shadowing and preparation time prior to the start date. The classes are well-established, with clear curricular frameworks and support from experienced colleagues.
Description
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Teach two pre-assigned Upper School humanities courses, maintaining continuity and excellence in instruction and assessment.
• Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding academic progress and classroom expectations.
• Partner with department colleagues and administrators to ensure alignment with the school’s mission and pedagogy.
• Attend regular faculty meetings and participate in school life as appropriate for a full-time faculty member.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Alignment with the school’s statement of faith and commitment to its mission and vision.
Qualifications
• Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision, and values of The Cambridge School.
• Bachelor’s degree in English, Literature, History, or a related humanities field required.
• Minimum of two years teaching experience at the middle or high school level, preferably in a classical or liberal arts setting.
• Demonstrated ability to teach writing, facilitate Socratic-style discussion, and engage students in close reading of complex texts.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills

• Optional prep/shadowing period in October may be compensated depending on availability and fit.
